Andy Samberg has been receiving good reviews for his hosting stint at the Emmy Awards.
Aside from his witty jokes and recorded skits, the "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" actor has been the center of fans' discussions online as he gave away a functioning HBO Now login during the show.
"Speaking of, HBO has the most nominations tonight and I just realized that a lot of you watching it at home right now might not have an HBO subscription, but lucky for you, the CEO of HBO recently said he doesn't think password sharing for their streaming services is a problem," Andy Samberg said, as quoted by E! Online.
"So, here's my HBO Now login. The user name is khaleesifan3@emmyhost.com, and the password is, of course, password1."
The joke got a lot more buzz when fans found out that the login actually worked.
According to sources, Adam Samberg's HBO joke was not a paid advertisement, and though HBO was given a heads up that a joke about their streaming service will be delivered, they allegedly didn't know exactly what was going to happen.
Is Andy Samberg in trouble for giving out an HBO Now login during the awards show?
Not really. According to sources, HBO actually accommodated Andy Samberg's joke by activating the HBO Now login that he announced.
"HBO had been tipped off that the Emmys would include a joke about password sharing, but wasn't told what exactly it would be," Variety reported. "Watching the program live like all other viewers, the team behind the stunt had to improvise when Samberg made his joke."
But why was Andy Samberg's HBO Now login deactivated after a few hours?
"While HBO is not sharing specific stats on the web traffic success of the endeavor, there's bad news for those who were hoping to binge-watch on Samberg's dime at a later time: the account quickly hit login limits and has now been deactivated," the report explained.
