The latest news about Angelina Jolie circulates around the actress' double masectomy and reconstruction raising awareness about breast cancer awareness.

According to Daily Mail, a research found that there is indeed what is termed the "Angelina Jolie effect," which is a phenomenon increasing knowledge about the health topic.

Brad Pitt's wife underwent a surgery that removed both of her breasts followed by surgical reconstruction in May 2013 after learning that she has a genetic mutation that increased her chances of having breast cancer.

Angelina Jolie lost her mother, grandmother, and aunt to breast cancer.

"To ascertain if that coverage had an effect on public awareness, a team of researchers led by David Benjamin Lumenta, from the Medical University of Graz in Austria, conducted two online polls," Daily Mail reported.

"They found awareness that reconstructive breast surgery is possible after the surgical removal of one or both breasts increased by four percentage points from 88.9 to 92.6 per cent. But, they found even greater increases in awareness in other areas.

"The number of women who knew breast reconstruction can be achieved with the use of the patient's own tissue increased from 57.6 to 68.9 per cent," the report continued.

Despite the positive latest news about Brad Pitt's wife contributing to breast cancer awareness, there are critics who speculate about the intentions behind the surgery.

The comment section of the latest news report were filled with various theories from critics.

"...honestly after two pregnancies and three babies it seems pretty obvious that she wanted to do some reconstructive surgery anyway and just used this as an opportunity to justify her decision," a critic from Brooklyn wrote.

"I do think she's encouraged people to be tested but I've always wondered why if she was so concerned about helping women avoid this, she didn't open a foundation that payed for the tests for women who have had mothers who had already been diagnosed?" the comment continued.

Another critic from New Zealand speculated that the latest news about the increase in breast cancer awareness adds up to the PR success of Brad Pitt's wife.

"...Angelina continues to benefit largely from her new boobs and PR spin. There is nothing genuine or real about her and I can't believe some people still believe the hype despite all the revelations!" the comment said.

Fans defended Angelina Jolie's intentions in undergoing the operation and expressed positive reactions about the latest news that the actress has increased breast cancer awareness.

In an article published in The New York Times in May 2013, the "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" actress revealed the real motivation behind her decision to undergo the double mastectomy and reconstructive surgery: her kids.

" I can tell my children that they don't need to fear they will lose me to breast cancer," Angelina wrote in the piece.

"It is reassuring that they see nothing that makes them uncomfortable. They can see my small scars and that's it. Everything else is just Mommy, the same as she always was," the article continued. "And they know that I love them and will do anything to be with them as long as I can."
