Park Bo Gum's Agency Debunks Rumor That He is Enlisting Soon

Rumor had it that the South Korean actor Park Bo Gum was in talks for enlisting in the military very soon after finishing his upcoming movie "Wonderland."

On March 31, the actor's label, Blossom Entertainment, opened up to the media right after a rumor circulated, claiming that the actor was recently summoned for his mandatory military service. Such a rumor didn't fare well for Park Bo Gum's company as they quickly responded with an official statement that clarified that nothing has been decided yet.

The label stated, "it's quite true that Park Bo Gum does not want to set back his mandatory service, but he has not received his enlistment summon yet. There's nothing currently confirmed regarding his mandatory service and they added that the exact timing of enlistment has not been confirmed."

The rumor surfaced following a report from Sporbiz that went viral quickly. Since the actor was born in 1993, Park Bo Gum's current age will be 27 in Korean age. Nevertheless, he is not required to enlist until the end of year 2021.

Based on the Constitution of South Korea, male citizens are all required to perform compulsory military service as long as you are between the ages of 18 and 28. There are exemptions that are being granted to violinists, pianists, and ballet performers. K-pop stars, actors, or directors are not exempted. The length of time for a male to perform his military service depends on a number of factors but it normally ranges from 21 to 24 months.

As of the moment, the Korean actor is filming for his upcoming tvN drama, titled "Record of Youth," in which he stars alongside the actor Park So Dam from the film "Parasite." On the other hand, Park Bo Gum's upcoming film "Wonderland," which also stars actors Jung Yu Mi, Gong Yoo, Tang Wei, Choi Woo Shik and Suzy. This film will be helmed by film director Kim Tae-yong. "Wonderland" is expected to start its filming this April.

For the meantime, Park Bo Gum will be entertaining viewers on the small-screen very soon with tvN's upcoming drama 'Record of Youth', as well as on the big screen through "Seo Bok," to be broadcasted later this year. 

Park Bo Gum is a model and an endorser of a wide range of brands in Korea and also internationally. The "Park Bo-gum Effect" was made up by the Korean Business Research Institute, which refers to the steadily high reputation ranking of the actor and his efficiency as an endorser throughout various statistics. In 2017, he was voted by marketing executives as the Top Celebrity Endorser.
