Balloons have stolen the show at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City on Thursday, Nov. 28.

The giant balloons have withstood the blustery storm with high winds and revelers at the annual parade could not be happier to see the balloons fly above the streets of New York city.

Parade-goers waited hours to ensure a spot and not miss either Spider-Man, Julius, Snoopy and SpongeBob SquarePants. Joining the popular characters are dozens more inflated characters.

"The balloons are the best part," Matthew Ragbe, 11 was quoted as saying by Miami Herald.

"We thought they'd find a way to pull it off," another parade-goer, John Mispagel, from San Jose, Calif. said, according to Miami Herald. It's really fun seeing so many people having such a great time."

Participants in the parade were more careful than usual and they were described as “keeping a tight grip” of the sky-bound creatures in an attempt to fight strong winds believed recorded at mid-20 mph.

American Idol alum, Kellie Pickler performed at the event.

"It's amazing," Pickler said, noted Miami Herald as the singer was preparing to sing "Little Bit Gypsy." "This is such an honor to be a part of this parade. I grew up watching this."

The day also marked the official start of Christmas shopping season in America.
