Grammy Awards 2014: Ed Sheeran Shocked at “Best New Artist” Nomination (Photo/Video)
When Ed Sheeran heard his name get announced along with top new popular artists at the Grammys Awards 2014 nominations, the English singer admitted caught surprised by the recognition.
In the list of nominees for the Best New Artist category, Ed is up against other top new artists including, Kendrick Lamar and Macklemore.
Before he was announced, the 22-year old singer from Framlingham, England told MTV News in an interview that he thought the category for the new artist was a tough one. Until his name was called.
"Before I got announced, I was like, 'Blimey, that looks like a tough category to be a part of,' " Sheeran was quoted as telling MTV News by Entertainmentwise.com.
And all he could say when he heard his name - - "And then I got announced and I was like, 'Oh, yikes.' "
“The A Team” singer paid tribute to fellow nominees, noting that he is a “fan of everyone” on the list.
"I'm a fan of everyone who is nominated, I remember seeing Kacey Musgraves for the first time last year at the Grammys and just being blown away. And Kendrick's album's obviously great. I've done stuff with the Macklemore boys and they're wicked. James Blake popped into the studio the other day and he was really nice,” Sheeran added, according to Entertainmentwise.com.
He was first up for the best Song of the Year for “The A Team,” but Sheeran pointed out that he is a “Grammy virgin,” added Entertainmentwise.com
He noted with a laughter, "I'm kind of like a Grammy virgin; it's kind of like they put it in then pulled it out, because I was there, I just didn't win.’
"I knew I wasn't going to win, so I went to enjoy the experience, play the song with Elton [John] and hang out with people I admired; I went in to enjoy it."
