He added, "Life is short. Why should I give up eating when I'm already eating well just to live a life of luxury? Because of these thoughts, I decided to let go and enjoy it."

Lee Jang Woo said that taking a step back from the societal standards of looks has made him feel freer and happier. "If I've lived someone else's life until now, I feel like I'm living my own life. I'm truly happy these days," he added.

As the news outlet quoted, actor Lee Joo Seung also shared his opinion about Lee Jang Woo's change, stating, "He couldn't have been more handsome back then. If you are happy enough to give it up, then that's the right thing to do."

Lee Jang Woo answered politely in return, "Lee Joo Seung is a good actor. We're around the same age, but I was jealous. My skills are lacking compared to his. He feeds off the artist's soul, but I live by eating."

Looking back at his past fame, he went on to say, "I was good-looking and popular, but my happiness in my twenties wasn't real. I'd feel empty in my eighties if I kept holding on to what wasn't real. I often hear people say that I look happy these days. I've been getting a lot of hate and eating a lot."

Still, responses on theqoo were mostly negative and included many netizens showing their disappointment and worry about his attitude toward health. "How can you say you won't care for yourself so carelessly? I now have no expectations for him as an actor was one of the comments.

Another user criticized by saying, "Wasn't he pre-diabetic when he weighed 108 kg? You must care for yourself even if you live alone, but now he has a partner. I really hope he stays healthy, especially for his wife."

Others were blunt and said, "Then stop complaining that you aren't getting cast by directors. People who take care of themselves should be acting."

In spite of the criticism, Lee Jang Woo's comment has sparked renewed debate regarding self-acceptance, health, and the pressure put upon celebrities to retain their appearance in the Korean entertainment culture.
