Age is a tricky subject in the Korean entertainment world. It influences the perception of celebrities and even determines the casting of certain roles. Some celebrities have shaved off a year or two to appear younger, but Jin Se Yeon's story challenges this notion. She actually added a year—not to fool anyone, but for sensible, career-related reasons.

Jin Se Yeon, a popular actress born in 1994, recently addressed long-standing questions about why she was once publicly identified as a 93-liner.

The topic resurfaced during her appearance on TV Chosun's food-travel program "Gourmet Traveler Heo Young Man," where casual conversation turned into a candid explanation of her early career circumstances. According to Koreaboo, the discussion drew renewed attention from viewers familiar with her profile history.

During the broadcast, host Heo Young Man asked Jin about her age, prompting her to clarify her actual birth year. She responded, "I was born in 1994."

She then explained that although she is indeed a 94-liner, her official profile previously listed her as being born in 1993, which led many to believe she was a year older than she really was.

Jin went on to elaborate on the reasoning behind the decision. She said, "I was born in 1994, but since I was an early-year baby in February and debuted very young, there was a period when agencies preferred actors with a slightly more mature image. So I just listed my birth year as 1993 on my profile." Xportsnews later cited her comments in their coverage of the episode.

The actress also addressed how the issue was formally clarified years ago. In 2012, questions about her real age surfaced after she told her Five Fingers co-star Ji Chang Wook that she was born in 1994. At the time, her management agency released an official statement to explain the discrepancy, according to reports from Chosun Ilbo.

In that statement, her agency emphasized that there was no intention to mislead the public. A representative explained, "She is indeed an early 1994-born, but she attended school with students born in 1993. Her birthday is the same. There was no intent to deceive, and there was absolutely no malice."

The representative further clarified the professional context behind the decision, adding, "Jin Se Yeon debuted in her first year of high school. If we listed her as born in 1994, she would appear as a middle schooler rather than a high schooler.

Since the feel of a middle schooler differs from that of a high schooler, and she focused on adult roles rather than child acting, we listed her as born in 1993."

Looking back, the story of Jin Se Yeon just shows how much industry standards can shape a star's public image. She didn't do it to trick anyone—just to fit in and work.
