There have been speculations and possible spoilers that it will have to be Josh Radnor's character or the "mother" as played by Cristin Milioti, and it must have something to do with an unspecified ailment.

Yes, that is a clichéd twist, but the producers of the series, Craig Thomas and Carter Bays are masterfully weaving the suspense that fans all around the world can't help but stick to their tubes to catch how it will end.

It does not help that the HIMYM cast tweeted their emotional experience upon reading the final script a day after Valentine's day.

Neil Patrick Harris, who plays the master playboy Barney Stinson, tweeted: " Just finished the initial read thru of the final How I Met Your Mother. Ever. Holy moly. Just... holy dang moly. #soproud"

Alyson Hannigan, who won the People's Choice Award for Favorite TV Comedy Actress in 2010 as Lily, revealed: "Today we are having our last ever HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER table read. Carter & Craig are trying to rip my heart out on Valentine's Day."

Josh Radnor had this to say: "Read the HIMYM series finale script on the treadmill at the gym this morning. People probably thought that was sweat in my eyes. Suckers."

During the shoot of the final episode which is expected to run for 1 hour this coming March 31, the cast can't shake off the feeling of gratitude and melancholy.

Josh Radnor tweeted a photo of the train platform, which somehow gives a quite a stir that it may be a symbolism of an impending farewell. HIMYM producer and writer Carter Bays shared the same picture with the caption: "Last Stop."

"Ted Mosby" actor Radnor tweeted after: "It was raining the day I auditioned for HIMYM. It's raining the day I finish. English majors, what does this mean?!"

The series of texts ended with emotional thank you's and Bays cheering on Cristin Milioti as he said that the 'mother' "showed up 8 years in and knocked us all on our ass with her talent & charm."

No mentions of death in their live updates, but handful of cleenex were everywhere during the final reading and final act. All we are sure now is it is definitely not a happy ending.
