Josh Hartnett, who is about to make a comeback in Showtime's "Penny Dreadful," recently revealed that he turned down the opportunity to play Superman, Batman, and Spider-man.

In an interview with  Details  magazine, Hartnett talked about rejecting Byan Singer's offer to play Superman in "Superman Returns" and so much more.

"Spider-Man was something we talked about. Batman was another one. But I somehow knew those roles had potential to define me, and I didn't want that," said Hartnett. "I didn't want to be labeled as Superman for the rest of my career. I was maybe 22, but I saw the danger."

Does he kind of have a point? Christopher Reeves is infamously known for his Superman role while Brandon Routh remains the guy who originally played Spider-man. Even Henry Cavill can't live down "Man of Steel."

Despite the fact that there might be some truth to Hartnett's comments, they didn't go over so well with certain individuals in Hollywood.

"I didn't have those agents for much longer after that. There was a lot of infighting between my manager and agents, trying to figure out who to put the blame on," said Hartnett. "It got to the point where none of us were able to work together."

At 35-years-old, Hartnett admitted that he would have a different approach if given another opportunity to play the superhero again.

"I'd say, 'Let's talk about how it would be done, see if we can get on the same page.' Compromise doesn't scare me anymore," he said.

"Penny Dreadful" premieres May 11th on Showtime.
