Hugh Jackman News Update: Hugh Jackman seriously prepares for his role as pirate Blackbeard in reworked children's classic Peter Pan. He was spotted doing boxing and fencing training in a New York park on Wednesday. The 45-year-old actor sported a band-aid on the right hand side of the bridge of his nose.

According to Daily Mail, it was late last year that the actor revealed that doctors had discovered a cancerous growth on his nose and Wednesday's bandage may very well have been a protective measure against re-growth or reaction. The actor didn't seem to let his plaster put hinder him in practising, with a steely gaze that showed intent, he looked every inch the chief villain as he swung his sabre liberally around.

"Hugh repeatedly jabbed his sword into an imaginary figure as he stepped into the role and wore the same work-out attire as Saturday. With his T-Shirt drenched in sweat, the actor showed off his bulging biceps and pumped chest as he was put through his paces by a trainer," Daily Mail reported.

The award winning actor also drew some punches with a mini boxing session aside from getting familiar with his sword. Peeking against the glare of morning sunlight, the actor was unmindful to those passing by as he showed off his nimble foot-work on the grass, the report says.

Jackman was spotted casually walking down a Manhattan street still wearing his training gear after his fencing lesson.

The Warner Bros movie envisions the origins of Peter Pan to be played by Levi Miller and is written by actor-turned-writer Jason Fuchs. Peter Pan and Captain Hook are friends and crew members on board's Blackbeard's ship in this new version of the story. Javier Bardem had previously been thought to have been lined up for the role. The cast includes Mean Girls actress Amanda Seyfried, who will play Mary alongside Garrett Hedlund as Hook and Rooney Mara as Tiger Lily.

English director Joe Wright who directed Pride & Prejudice, Atonement and Anna Karenina is leading the film.

"I love the director Joe Wright, I love working with Warner Bros and I think this is just really exciting. It's a very cool project. And it's wonderful for my kids!" the actor told the Huffington Post.

Jackman is currently filming Unbroken, directed by Angelina Jolie and being shot in Australia. He recently finished shooting X-Men: Days of Future Past, in which he plays tortured hero Wolverine for the sixth time alongside James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender.
