Oscar De La Hoya Reacts On Recent Golden Boy Promotions Shake-Up! Boxing Champ 'Moving Ahead On All Fronts’ As He Makes Amends With Bob Arum?
Oscar De La Hoya has made his reactions regarding Golden Boy Promotions and the most recent turn of events involving the resignation of long-time CEO Richard Schaefer via an official press release.
"Golden Boy Promotions is moving ahead on all fronts," De La Hoya said. "We look forward to continuing and expanding our key position in the boxing world and to providing the public with the very best the sport has to offer."
Richard Schaefer's resignation did not come as a surprise, given his rift with Oscar De La Hoya and Golden Boy Promotions as a whole. After a decade of working with the six-division world champion, Schaefer publicly tendered his resignation. The decision coincidentally came six days before Oscar De La Hoya's induction to the International Boxing Hall-of-Fame.
"After more than 10 years with Golden Boy, it is time to move on to the next chapter of my career," Schaefer said in a report by ESPN.com. "This decision has required a great deal of personal reflection, but ultimately I concluded that I have no choice but to leave."
Richard Schaefer's now severed ties with Oscar De La Hoya and Golden Boy Promotions triggered pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather Jr. to leave the promotion company as well.
As for "The Golden Boy", he remains optimistic about the company that he built 12 years ago. While there may be shake-ups from within his organization, he has also begun to make amends with former long-time rival Bob Arum of Top Rank Promotions.
Both boxing promoters have been vocal about their mutual respect for each other amidst the "cold war" between their two companies. But things seem to be shaping up for the better, as Bob Arum will be attending Oscar De La Hoya's induction ceremony, to the delight of the former world champion.
"It's a special moment, and obviously Bob had a lot to do with it early on in my career," De La Hoya said. "It's going to be special to see a person like Bob, who basically launched my career. I'm going to really appreciate that."
