Truly, only one can prevail in any game. A tennis player experiences victory and defeat in various tournaments; however, the goal is always to snatch the title and become the champion. Thus, every defeat is both devastating and a learning experience. The 20-year-old Canadian Eugenie Bouchard was close to grabbing the victory from four-time Grand Slam champion Maria Sharapova in French Open 2014 Semi-final until the 2-1/2-hour play ended with 4-6, 7-5, 6-2 scores in the card. Bouchard aims to become the first Canadian tennis player to win a Grand Slam singles title after the 1968 Open era, but Sharapova seemed has shattered her dream for this year.

Bouchard gained control in the first set of the match, breaking the serve of Sharapova in the third game. She did it well. However, the final game is always the deciding point of any match, so she tried her best to finish the game on her favor, but failed when Sharapova was successful in putting pressure on her as the clock ticked to the final point.

Despite the loss, Bouchard still has something to be proud of, considering she and Carling Bassett-Seguso are the only Canadians who reached the final four at a Grand Slam. So, it is not bad after all.

Although it is not clear whether or not being friends help her reached the top 4, Bouchard knows that when in the tennis court, she is facing the opponent. Sharapova and Bouchard are not friends or enemies; they just both love tennis. Sports is not the way for the two players to become friends or get close.

Sharapova will face the No. 4 seed Simona Halep in the Finals after the Russian player surpassed No. 28 seed German Andrea Petkovic in the other semis. Perhaps the pressure is on for Sharapova as it is her third straight time to appear in French Open Finals and won the title in 2012. It's sort of a comeback for her after her defeat in 2013 over Selena Williams.
