LA Lakers news are clear about Byron Scott being the likely head coach to rein in an aging Kobe Bryant as the team already contacted the former "Showtime" member, alongside Magic Johnson, to offer the position.

Chris Broussard of ESPN revealed the latest LA Lakers news when he reported that the two sides are just ironing out the details of the contract as Byron Scott on principle already accepted the offer.

He tweeted: "The Los Angeles Lakers have offered Byron Scott their head coaching job. The two sides are now in negotiations."

Kobe Bryant also earlier expressed his desire to work with Byron Scott whom he credited for being his mentor while a rookie in the league.

Earlier, Byron Scott said that he's just the right guy for the job of leading the team as it rebuilds for a crack at a championship.

"I don't feel I'm a very arrogant guy, but I feel like I am the perfect guy for this job," he said when interviewed on "Max & Marcellus" show on ESPNLA 710 Radio back in May.

He added: "I got a great relationship with Kobe. I know the team, know the roster. I watched them all season long and I just think it would be a great fit."

Byron Scott also said that one of his advantages, which he shares with Kobe Bryant, is his "old-school" mentality. "But I think the biggest thing is, number one, I respect the hell out of Kobe and I think he respects me. That's the first hurdle we got to get past, and then other things, we'll be able to solve all those little issues," he said.

In another LA Lakers news, John Schuhmann of NBA.com tweeted that, "Since league expanded to 30 teams, Byron Scott is only guy to coach 3 straight teams to bottom 5 in defensive efficiency."
