Jackie Chan's son, Jaycee Chan, has been officially charged with a formal drug case following his marijuana bust last August.

According to a report from USA Today,Jaycee Chan was formally arrested as Chinese government officials suspect that he is pushing illegal drugs.

The arrest came as a formal approval was given by the Dongcheng District prosecutor's office. The USA Today report explained how it is part of China's laws for police to first secure official approval from prosecutors before a suspected felon is formally arrested.

If found guilty of pushing illegal drugs, Jackie Chan's son will be facing a maximum of three years in prison.

According to a Daily Mail report, Jaycee Chan was arrested at his Beijing home last August for possession of more than 3.5 ounces of marijuana. Chinese police have confirmed the discovery of drugs at the home of Jackie Chan's son.

Arrested along with Jackie Chan's son was his friend Kai Ko, a 23-year-old Taiwanese movie star. The two also tested positive for marijuana use.

Jackie Chan's son Jaycee, 31, was born and raised in the U.S. He is also an aspiring actor and singer.

The martial arts expert Jackie Chan has released his official statement regarding Jaycee Chan's drug arrest through his official website, and the letter was published by TMZ.

"When I first heard the news, I was absolutely enraged," Jackie Chan said.

"As a public figure, I feel very ashamed; as his dad, I'm very sad and disappointed," the "Rush Hour" star admitted.

Jackie Chan added that "the person who feels heartbroken the most is (Jaycee's) mom."

The action star says his son's arrest should serve as a lesson to the youth. "I hope our younger generation will learn from Jaycee's mistake and stay far away from drug abuse," said Jackie Chan.

Jackie Chan's son is still being supported by his movie star father in the middle of the drug issue. "I would like to take this opportunity and say to Jaycee: you've done something wrong and you have to be responsible for the consequences. I'm your dad and I'll always be with you. We will face the road ahead of us together."

The beloved martial arts star admits: "I should also take some of this responsibility because as his dad, I didn't teach him well."

Jackie Chan closed his official statement with an apology: "Therefore, on behalf of Jaycee and myself, I extend our deepest apologies to everyone for the negative impact this has caused on society. Thank you."
