The Bantams got off to a great start in Sunday's League One clash at Oakwell when Jason Kennedy scored after just 45 seconds, firing past a diving Ross Turnbull.

Wilson's side levelled shortly after half-time through a Rory McArdle own goal, as he diverted a header from a Conor Hourihane set-piece into Jordan Pickford's goal.

The Reds carried their momentum into the final stages and Sam Winnall gave them a 67th-minute lead when he got on the end of a Lewin Nyatanga cross to poke the ball into an unguarded net.

Kane Hemmings was on hand to slide the ball in for Barnsley's third goal deep into stoppage time.

Wilson said: "Overall it was a very pleasing performance. We had some very good chances and some of the football we played was excellent. In the second half we did everything we have been promising to do.

"I know that towards the end of the game Bradford were chasing it a bit, but I thought that we were full of threats in different areas. We got a goal at a good time which gave us a lot of time to go and win it, but the perseverance and patience we showed today was excellent."

Winnall scored Barnsley's second of the game along with playing a key role in the first, and Wilson was quick to pay tribute to the forward.

He said: "Playing in the manner that he did, he had a great game. That is probably the best Sam has played for us, but it is his other side of his game which has helped the side."

Bradford boss Phil Parkinson admitted that his side failed to do the basics right.

He said: "I felt today that we neglected the basics in our game, and it has proved costly. In patches we played some good stuff, but our 'keeper has had to make too many saves.

"We got the early goal and it was almost a sense of we had already won the game, but obviously football is not like that.

"The Barnsley supporters were very quiet today, and we gave them a huge lift with the goal we conceded after half-time. After that, Barnsley were the better team.

"We didn't play well as a team. We have had a great run on our travels, which has come to an end today, but we have a great game to bounce back against Sheffield United. We're looking forward to it already because over the course of the 90 minutes we know we are better than what we showed."
