Football News: New Scunthorpe Boss Mark Robins Knew It Was Only A Matter Of Time Before He Got Back Into Football League Management

The 44-year-old had spells as manager at Rotherham, Barnsley, Coventry and latterly Huddersfield, who he left one game into the current season in August.

But Robins was granted a return to the game on Monday after being chosen to replace Russ Wilcox at Glanford Park, and he has backed himself to turn the club's fortunes around.

"I'm delighted, absolutely," Robins said. "I didn't have any doubts (about getting another job), it was just a case of how long it was going to be and which club.

"I've always done well wherever I've been, I know I've always done a good job in the circumstances.

"There are always difficult circumstance when you take over and this one is no different."

Former manager Wilcox, sacked last week with the club sitting in the relegation zone, steered the Iron to promotion in May, but his side managed just two wins in 11 league games this time around.

Robins, who will be joined by new assistant David 'Ned' Kelly, promised each member of the Iron squad they would be given time to prove themselves.

"As long as they work hard and are capable of doing the job they're paid to do, the players here will get every opportunity," Robins added.

"It's also important that some of the younger players, when they're good enough, are brought through because that's something I strongly believe in and I've a track record in doing that.

"But it's got to be done properly and it can't be forced - that's the big mistake that people make.

"It can't be forced, you've got to make sure the young players are brought through at the right speed, the right rate for them."
