Lee Byung Hun Plays A Political Gangster In 'The Inside Man'

BY Julie Jones

Lee Byung Hun has been spending time in Hollywood lately, making one blockbuster after another. But in the last two years he's also had time to film some k-movies. His next k-movie "The Inside Man" opens on November 19.

Lee plays Ahn Sang Gu, a political gangster. He's a man who has some inside connections but not for the best reasons.

His character, Ahn Sang Gu, and Lee Kang Hee, played by Baek Yoon Sik, work for the rich and powerful, brokering secret deals. Lee Kang Hee is the editor of a conservative newspaper so he uses the power of the press to make or break reputations. Ahn works behind the scenes, setting up the secret deals and creating slush funds. Together they help Jang Pil Woo, a congressman, become a viable presidential candidate. Ahn's deals create a substantial slush fund for the congressman.

But one day Ahn makes a mistake. He pockets some of the money that he got in that secret deal, thinking no one will notice. But word gets out. Once Ahn's actions are revealed he gets crushed by the powers that be. It would seem like he no longer has any options. But he's not the kind of man who will stay down. He carefully plots his revenge, planning to take down those who turned against him.

Jo Seung Woo plays an ambitious prosecutor named Woo Jang Hoon. He suspects Jang Pil Woo and wants to investigate him but that investigation leads him to Lee Byung Hun's character now focused on revenge.

Will the two characters hinder or help each other in their pursuit of revenge and justice?

Filming began in July 2014. The film is based on the web comic "Naeboojadeul," written by Yoon Tae Ho, and first published in 2010.

Lee Byung Hun's recent films include "Memories of the Sword," "Terminator Genisys," "Red 2," "Masquerade," and "G.I. Joe: Retaliation."

His last drama appearance was in the Japanese drama "Diplomat Kosaku Kuroda" and his last k-drama was in the 2009 spy drama "Iris."
