Lee Byung Hun Keeps Promise To Hug Fans

BY Julie Jones

Lee Byung Hun and Jo Seung Woo delivered on their promise of giving out free hugs at an event on December 28. The event took place at the Times Square shopping mall in Seoul.

The actors promised to give out the hugs if their film, "Inside Men," sold six million tickets.

By the fourth week in December the film sold over 6.5 million tickets, breaking a record for R-rated films in 2015. That was not the only record the film broke. It also set a record for the most-viewed R-rated movie in a single day, drawing 489,503 viewers. The film earned almost $11 million during its first four days in the box office.

Stars Lee Byung Hun and Jo Sung Woo promised they would also sing a song if the film attracted more than six million viewers. That song was "Spring Rain." Lee came up with the idea after seeing Jo in a musical. Jo was in three musicals in 2015. He appeared in "Jekyll and Hyde," "Man of La Mancha" and "Werther."

"I went to see Jo in a musical recently and sang 'Spring Rain' with him in the waiting room," said Lee at a recent media event for the film "Inside Men." "I realized that I can't keep up with him when it comes to singing."

But he was prepared to try if the film did well.

Both actors have been busy this year. Besides his musical appearances Jo Seung Woo also had a cameo in the film "Assassination." His last drama was the 2014 drama "God's Gift - 14 Days."

Lee Byung Hun appeared in three films that were released this year. He was in "Terminator Genysis" and "Memories of the Sword" as well as "Inside Men." In 2016 he can be seen in the films "Misconduct," originally titled "Beyond Deceit" and the film "Magnificent Seven."

"Inside Men" is a political thriller about corruption in politics and the media. Lee Byung Hun plays a political henchman and Jo Seung Woo plays an ambitious prosecutor. The film also stars Baek Yoon Sik and Lee Geung Young.
