Gong Yoo And Jeon Do Yeon Are 'A Man And A Woman' In Love

BY Julie Jones

As the premiere of “A Man and A Woman” approaches, stars Jeon Do Yeon and Gong Yoo have more to say about this story of forbidden love.

“It’s a tale of passionate love, which I hadn’t done in films for a while” said Jeon at the recent press conference for the film’s release. Playing a woman who has an extramarital affair forced Jeon to reconsider the nature of love. She wanted to consider where her character was coming from and rather than see her act as a betrayal of her marriage to view it as an equally valid expression of love.

“As I had to play the role of an unfaithful, I tried to fully immerse myself in the script to the point where I had to consider the various kinds of love that exist in this world,” said Jeon in an article published by the Korean media outlet Chosun Ilbo.

In the film Jeon plays Sang Min, a woman who comes to Finland so she can send her autistic son to a special camp. That's where she meets the man played by Gong Yoo and they connect. When a heavy snowfall strands them in a cabin overnight, they sleep together. The next day they vow to go their separate ways but that's not the end of their affair or the repercussions it will have on both their families.

One of the reasons that Gong Yoo chose to appear in the film was the chance to work with Jeon Do Yeon, the winner of multiple awards for her film work.

“I was happy to work with Jeon,” he said. “That was one of my wishes as an actor.”

In fact the film fulfilled two of his wishes.

“The other was that I wanted to film a grown-up love story,” said Gong.

For Jeon Do Yeon, working on “A Man and A Woman” was a chance to work again with the director Lee Yoon Ki. His 2008 film "My Dear Enemy" was one of her favorite films to work on.

"The director is well known for his dry style in dealing with emotions. I wondered how that style would turn out in "A Man and A Woman" and that's the reason why I chose "A Man and A Woman."

Goo appeared in the films "The Suspect," “Silenced” and “Busan Bound.”

Jeon’s films include “The Shameless,” “Memories of the Sword,” “Way Back Home,” “The Housemaid” and “My Enemy.”

The film premieres in February.
