‘Melancholia’ Teaser: Teacher Im Soo Jung Tries to Reignite Lee Do Hyun’s Forgotten Passion

Im Soo Jung and Lee Do Hyun's first drama project together, "Melancholia," shares a glimpse of their lives on October 8.

"Melancholia" follows the story of a Mathematics teacher and a former mathematical genius who lost his passion for numbers. Together, they figure out their purposes in their lives as they navigate their way through the school's fallacies, corruption, and scandals.

In the drama, Im Soo Jung takes on the role of Mathematics teacher Ji Yoon Soo, who is filled with passion and determination to mold her students' hearts and minds. Opposite Lee Do Hyun who will portray the former Math genius Baek Seung Yoo, who disappeared without a trace for years.

The teaser begins with Ji Yoon Soo staring at someone warmly, saying, "Your eyes see the world through the eyes of Mathematics. That's special."

Then, the former Mathematics genius Baek Seung Yoo timidly approaches her. Seung Yoo was a child prodigy who had a heart for numbers and equations, but when he grew older, his heart fell out of love with Mathematics.

Without prejudice, Yoon Soo greets him with awe and warmth, "It's nice to meet you." The first encounter of the two characters foreshadows the remarkable scenes that will unfold as the story progresses.

In the next scene, Baek Seung Yoo drowns alone in his painful thoughts. He once loved Mathematics, but now, he is interested in something else.

"It didn't work out. That's the problem. I want to give up. These problems cannot be solved," he thought. His pensive feelings hint a much heavier reason and depth as to why he quit, which stimulates curiosity.

However, the bright and welcoming teacher Yoon Soo shows up, and the lonesome Seung Yoo sees hope once again. A smile creeps on his face that was once filled with melancholy.

Then he asks, "Can I do it my way? Falling for something and never falling out of it..."

With this, the scene of the first encounter of Seung Yoo and Yoon Soo leaves a deep, lingering impression.

The newly released teaser video of Im Soo Jung and Lee Do Hyun's "Melancholia" depicts the charms of the two different characters, who both have unique perspectives on Mathematics and even in life.

tvN's 15th Anniversary Special Drama "Melancholia" is directed by Kim Sang Hyeop and written by Kim Ji Woon.

Apart from the duo, Jin Kyung, Oh Hye Won, Lee Sang Jin, Jang Hyun Sung, and Baek Ji Won will also add strength to the forthcoming drama.
