Jeon Hyo Sung Takes On Ghostly Role

Some of the best roles in kdramas these days belong to ghosts. That may be why Jeon Hyo Sung, the leader of the popular girl group "Secret" has signed on to play a ghostly high school student named Han Na Young. In the latest ghost drama, "Ghost Seeing Detective Yoon Cheo Yong," Han Na Young's spirit haunts the unit where a ghost-seeing detective works.

This drama might be accused of copying other ghost dramas, such as "Who Are You?" or "Master's Sun" if it had not been in development for a long time. And the story is a little different. In this 10-episode mystery thriller, Yoon Cheo Yong is a detective who can see, hear and touch ghosts. Yoon Cheo Yong has always seen ghosts but he prefers to pretend that he does not see them. Life is simpler that way.

Then one day he talks to Han Na Young and life changes for the police officer.  Han Na Young has also been lonely for a long time and she forms a bond with the equally lonely Yoon Cheo Yong. This OCN drama stars Oh Ji Ho as Yoon Cheo Yong and Oh Ji Eum playing his partner, a female detective named Ha Seon Woo.

Kdrama offers plenty of opportunities to see ghosts this month. There are ghosts in "Who Are You?" starring Taecyeon, So E Hyun and Kim Jae Wook as a ghostly boyfriend. You can also see ghosts in "Master's Sun," starring So Ji Sub and Gong Hyo Jin. Both stories feature women who can see ghosts and the men who at first don't believe them.

In "Master's Sun," So Ji Sub is a greedy executive and Gong Hyo Jin is his emotional secretary with paranormal abilities. In "Who Are You?" Taecyeon and So E Hyun both play detectives assigned to the Lost and Found department, a favorite hangout for ghosts who have lost their way.

In both these dramas, the ability to see ghosts is a sudden and terrifying development for the characters that see them, whereas Yoon Cheo Yong has always seen ghosts but ignored them.

Lim Chan Ik will direct "Ghost Seeing Detective Yoon Cheo Yong." He directed the comedy "Arrest King." Hong Seung Hyeon, who worked on "Joseon X-Files," wrote the screenplay. It will be broadcast in October.

Jeon Hyo Sung's only previous drama role was playing Soo Yeon in the sitcom "Salamander Guru."
