During her appearance on the TV show "Heo Young Man's Food Travel," where she and host Heo Young Man toured her hometown of Gil-dong, she made the revelation. She thought back on her childhood and shared personal stories from her youth during the episode.

Son talked about her education and said that she went to the same school in Gil-dong from elementary school to high school. The host joked about whether or not male students gathered outside her school because of how pretty she was, which made the conversation more lighthearted.

When asked the question, Son told an unexpected story from that time. "I used to attend an all-girls school, but boys from nearby schools would wait for me at the village bus stop." she said.

A Koreaboo report says that the actress said that her popularity with boys worried her family, especially her mother, who set strict rules.

She went on to explain how far those steps went to give more context. She said, "My mom was very strict, so she cut my hair super short. She basically shaved it off with scissors."

Son also talked about other rules that were in place when she was a teenager. She said, "I had a 6 pm curfew," which showed how strict her childhood was.

According to FT Sports, her mother was protective of her in more ways than just curfews. The actress remembered that boys who waited near her house were dealt with directly. She told the story, saying, "My mom would splash water on the boys and yell at them for waiting near our house."

The actress said that these things made her middle and high school years especially hard, even though people noticed how she looked.

The song "Cry Eye" was Son Dam Bi's first hit in 2007. She became well-known later with songs like "On A Saturday Night" and "Crazy." She started acting in the 2009 drama "Dream," which made her even more famous in the business.

She married Lee Kyou Hyuk, a former member of the national speed skating team, and they had a daughter in April 2025.

Her story gives us a rare look at the stress that young stars face even before they become famous. It shows how early attention can change people's lives in ways they didn't expect.
