Patrick Dempsey has recently been making news not for his acting, but for his involvement in sports events.

The "Grey's Anatomy" alum has joined the Dempsey Challenge, a bike-and-run fundraiser event held in Lewiston, Maine.

"The event is a fundraiser for The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing at the Central Maine Medical Center," Boston.com reported. "He and his sisters were inspired to help create the center in 2008 by their mother, who died from cancer last year."

Before the Dempsey Challenge, Patrick also recently marked his first ever sports car racing first class win at the IA WEC Six Hours of Fuji.

Fox Sports previously reported that McDreamy drove the No. 77 Porsche 911 RSR Dempsey Proton Racing along with Patrick Long and Marco Seefried.

Patrick Dempsey's involvement in these events sparked speculations from fans: is the actor trying to distract himself from his alleged feud with former Ellen Pompeo, as well as the season premiere of "Grey's Anatomy"?

After being killed off in "Grey's Anatomy" last season, Patrick Dempsey is not left without any acting gigs.

Ellen Pompeo's former leading man will star in the third "The Bridget Jones's Diary" film with Renée Zellweger and Colin Firth. However, moving on from "Grey's Anatomy," where he starred for a decade, is undoubtedly harder than it seems.

Ellen Pompeo and Patrick Dempsey both have not addressed rumors that they have bad blood against each other.

Back when he has just been killed off "Grey's Anatomy" in April, Patrick Dempsey got emotional when he talked about pulling the plug on his role at the show.

According to a previous report by Entertainment Weekly, Patrick Dempsey was calm and composed all throughout the interview until he was asked about how it was like working with Ellen Pompeo.

Answering this question reportedly made the actor tear up.

"It was magic. It's beautiful. We're like a married couple. It's 10 years, and it was magic from the beginning. Chemistry right away," the actor said.
