Suzy Was Hesitant To Return To The Silver Screen

Miss A's Suzy discussed her decision to return to the silver screen, in the upcoming period film, "Dorihwaga."

On October 29, the acting idol appeared a press conference for the movie which was held at the Apujeong CGV Theater in Seoul.  During the event, Suzy was joined by director Lee Jong Pil (The Man from Nowhere) and co-star Ryoo Seung Ryong. 

An article published by the Korean outlet News 24 provided notable statements from the press event. 

"I was very worried," said Suzy, in regards to her return to Korean film. 

"Dorihwaga," which is also known by its English title, "The Sound of a Flower," is her second film role. In 2012, she received accolades for her movie debut in "Architecture 101."

She went on describe the challenges of starring in a period film, which is centered on the traditional oratory genre, pansori. In the movie, she portrays Chae Sun, a real-life student of Shin Jae Hyo, the leader of Dongrijunsa, an early school of pansori. 

"It was hard to establish an emotional tone," mused Suzy, as she described the drawbacks of portraying a real-life historical character. 

While she may have been challenged by the role, she was elated to take on the vocal styling of pansori. The experience of her work as a pop singer translated to the emotions of Chae Sun, particularly the loneliness one feels during arduous practice sessions.

"[When you] prepare to be a singer, you have a lot of time alone in the practice room," said Suzy. "If I practice a lot, I feel even more joy when I'm alone." 

Anticipation continues to rise for the film, which also serves as the first major role for Suzy, following the hit 2013 period drama, "Gu Family Book." 

Her lauded appearance in "Architecture 101"  helped to elevate her profile as a top acting idol. However, she recently received attention when netizens criticized the potential casting of the popular Miss A member as the female lead in the upcoming drama adaptation of "Cheese in the Trap."
