Casting for kdramas and kmovies often sees some interesting shuffles. Actors who are popular in dramas in one year often wind up getting cast together in the same films.

So, it's no surprise that actor Kim Tae Woo, who played the gangster that threatened and then saved Jo In Sung in the melodrama "That Winter The Wind Blows," has signed on for the film "Pirates." Or that his co-stars, Kim Nam Gil and Son Ye Jin were in another popular 2013 melodrama, "Shark."

His management agency, Chorok Entertainment, confirmed his decision a few days ago and said that he began filming on August 28.

The blockbuster film, which has been called the Korean "Pirates of the Caribbean," is set in the Joseon era. While it does focus on a pirate ship, like its Hollywood predecessor, the big difference is that a woman mans the "Pirates" ship. Son Ye Jin plays the pirate's leader, Yeo Wol.

In this film the sea is not the only territory ruled by bandits. There are gangs of bandits on land too.

Kim Nam Gil will play Jang Sah Jun, the leader of the seaside bandit gang. Kim Tae Woo will play Moh Heung Gap, one of the leaders of a mountainside gang. Son Ye Jin's pirates and Kim Nam Gil's bandits are expected to team up to hunt a ghost whale that swallows a royal seal.

A representative from Harimao Pictures, which is producing the $9 million film, expects that Kim Tae Woo will add more interest to the film thanks to his character's hostile interactions with both Son Ye Jin and Kim Nam Gil.

Kim Tae Woo has already worked with Kim Nam Gil when they both appeared in the film "Don't Look Back," but it will be his first time acting with Son Ye Jin.

Although his last role was villainous, Kim Tae Woo has not always played a bad guy. He previously appeared in the dramas "Dae Mul, "Foolish Mom," and "God's Quiz." He also appeared in the films, "The Winter Of The Year Was Warm," "Quick," "A Friend in Need" and "The Naked Kitchen." He is best known for art films, such as "Like You Know It All."

Netizens who are fans of the troubled romantic relationship between Son Ye Jin and Kim Nam Gil in "Shark" hope their relationship will work out better this time around. Hopefully, Kim Tae Woo's character won't cause too much trouble for them.
