Latino Groups Protest Donald Trump Guesting On 'SNL'; Say NBC Is Only After High Ratings

Donald Trump was invited to host the "Saturday Night Live" on Nov. 7. However, as a public figure, the Republican presidential nomination candidate surely displeases some of society's sector. For instance, the Latinos and Mexicans.

The Hispanic and pro-immigration groups intensified their calls for the "SNL" producer Lorne Michaels to withdraw the invitation. More than a dozen of their groups planned to hold a rally outside 30 Rockefeller Plaza when the "SNL" taping will take place on Wednesday. They wanted to deliver a petition with 460,000 signatures calling NBC Studios to "to disinvite Mr. Trump."

Democrat Representative of Illinois, Luis V. Gutiérrez stated, "When a TV personality calls Mexicans and Latinos criminals and rapists, a corporate network should not give him 90 minutes of free airtime in an entertainment venue without his first apologizing to the American people. Did I miss an apology?"

The rallyists cited Trump's comments which dismissed some of the Mexican immigrants, calling them "rapists" and criminals. They called the comments "divisive and hateful rhetoric toward Mexicans and Latinos alike." They said they could raise fears and lead to violence within immigrants and Hispanics throughout the country.

Trump's uttered the comments in June when he announced his candidacy, reckoned The New York Times.

At that time, NBC Universal even severed its business ties with the political aspirant. For now, "SNL" has not issued any comment.

Donald Trump, for his part, said about the protests on his "SNL" guesting, "Oh, good, it will get even higher ratings. It's going to be one of the highest-rated shows ever," he said, undaunted by mounting protests.

Donald Trump has proved to raise TV show ratings during his guestings. However, the Hispanic groups reacted, "It is disappointing to see that Lorne Michaels and the executives at NBC are willing to prioritize their ratings over the dignity and respect of their viewers."

With regard to Trump's relationship with his fellow candidates, he retweeted on Tuesday a message about Jeb Bush featuring a swastika among a gallery of images that bashes the latter.

Trump mocked Bush on the grounds of patriotism, depicting him as less American for speaking Spanish at home and addressing Hispanic audiences, reported CNN. Trump's spokeswoman said though Donald Trump did the retweeting himself, he did not see the image that went with it, and the retweet was deleted.
