What Makes Kdrama Men So Appealing?

What is it about the male characters in kdramas that makes women fall in love with them?

It certainly helps that the actors are attractive, but it really is the characters that are so appealing. Here are a few reasons why we think viewers fall for kdrama men.

1)    They can change. They may start out being arrogant distant jerks but all they really need is the love of a good woman. Consider how awful Lee Min Ho is at the beginning of "Boys Over Flowers" or So Ji Sub is in "The Master's Sun."

2)    When they do fall in love with you, they don't care if you are a) older than them, as in "I Hear Your Voice," b) not conventionally attractive as in "My Lovely Kim Sam Soon, c) dress terribly, as in "Personal Taste," d) might be a little crazy, as in "The Master's Sun," e) poor as in "Cheomdamdung Alice" or f) a boy, as in "Coffee Prince."

3)    They protect the women in their lives. They will move into your home if you are in danger or show up to escort you wherever you go. Would you not want Lee Jong Suk to sleep on your couch as he does in" I Hear Your Heart" or Taecyeon to do so as he did in "Who are You?" And sometimes when they are rescuing you from the bad guys they get between you and the weapon as So Ji Sub does in "The Master's Sun," even if it means dying for you. There's nothing they won't give up. In "Gu Family Book," Lee Seung Gi is willing to sacrifice immortality to be with Suzy.

4)    They want to give the woman they love presents and they are good at picking out something personal. From the sun necklace in "The Master's Sun" to the shoe necklace in "I Do I Do" to the star-moon necklace in "Boys Over Flowers," the minute a kdrama man falls for a girl, he wants to give her jewelry, as well as clothes and makeovers. And even if you would prefer to buy your own clothes and jewelry, it's a lovely gesture.

5)    They never forget you. Kdrama men will wait years for the woman they love and live in misery rather than fall for another woman, as Park Yoo Chun did in "Missing You" or Kim Soo Hyun did in "Moon Embracing the Sun." True kdrama love knows no distractions.

And finally, the best part is that they are fictional. If the characters are even slightly annoying you can hit the pause button and remember only their better qualities.
