BIGBANG started out twenty years ago, but stories from the group's early days keep coming out, making both old and new fans happy. One of these stories came out recently when actor Lee Soo Hyuk talked about a memory from behind the scenes with G-Dragon that showed how close the famous group came to getting another member.

G-Dragon, Taeyang, and Daesung are the current members of BIGBANG. The group started out as a five-member group with T.O.P and Seungri. In 2019, Seungri left the entertainment business because of the Burning Sun scandal. T.O.P officially left the group in May 2023. G-Dragon, on the other hand, was actively looking for possible members before the lineup was set.

Koreaboo says that Lee Soo Hyuk and G-Dragon were on episode 94 of Daesung's YouTube show "ZIP DAESUNG" together not too long ago. Lee thought back to G-Dragon's trainee days during the conversation, when it wasn't certain that BIGBANG would be successful.

Lee talked about that time and how G-Dragon got in touch with him while looking for talent. He said, "Back in high school, [G-Dragon] called me. 'In your neighbourhood, are there any kids who are good at dancing and singing?' He was trying to recruit members for BIGBANG at the time. When he was a trainee, at first it was just him and Taeyang."

Lee then talked about how he jokingly suggested himself as a possible member. He went on, "But he called me, when he was looking for members. I never imagined it would become this. Ah, back then I even joked, 'Me!' That's what I said."

G-Dragon said he couldn't remember what he said, but Lee remembered exactly why he was turned down. Lee said to Daesung on the show, "And do you know what he said? He said I couldn't because I was too tall."

G-Dragon found the exchange funny. He said, "That sounds right. That's probably it." He then added jokingly, "You'd be a better fit for TVXQ."

Lee Soo Hyuk started out as a model in 2006, but he later became an actor and joined YG Entertainment in 2017. He left YG in 2025 and signed with Saram Entertainment. Lee's Saram Entertainment profile says he is 6 feet 1 inch tall, which supports the funny explanation.

Fans have loved the story since then because it was a funny way to look back on BIGBANG's early days and how randomness contributed to one of the most significant acts in K-pop history.
