Being number one in their time slot has earned the popular drama "The Masters Sun" an extra episode. The drama about a woman who is tortured by the presence of ghosts and the man whose touch makes them go away has led in its time slot's ratings since the first week.

The comic chemistry between So Ji Sub and Gong Hyo Jin combined with a fast-paced script kept audiences tuning in for more. And they eventually wanted more than 16 episodes.

"Please write more episodes," one netizen begged the Hong Sisters screenwriting team on behalf of the show's fans. The Hong Sisters are responsible for such kdrama hits as "You're Beautiful," "Big," "My Girlfriend is a Gumiho," "My Girl" and "The Greatest Love."

When an audience is that enthusiastic about the story and the actors there's usually talk of a possible extension of one or two episodes. Because of its excellent ratings, the production company originally considered extending the show by two episodes, but settled on one.

"After discussing it with the actors and crew, we decided that 'The Master's Sun' would be extended by one episode," said a member of the production company.

The good news almost makes up for having to wait a little longer for the next episode.

Despite the last episode ending on an anxiety-provoking cliffhanger, this week's first installment was pre-empted. Last week left Gong Hyo Jin in tears and the episode did not even offer a preview of how the situation might be resolved.

One netizen wrote, "I didn't know the Hong Sisters could be so cruel. But it's okay, it's a rom com and there's no way the male lead could die."

Or could he? It's not likely but viewers want to know.

The reason that viewers will have to wait an extra day to find out So Ji Sub's fate is that this week's episode was re-scheduled because of the Chuseok holiday.

It's not unusual for special programming such as films and sporting events to be scheduled on that fall festival, as it is one of the biggest Korean holidays of the year. This year, a special showing of the film "The Thieves" opted the time slot. With the decision to show the film, the final episode was pushed from Sept. 26 to Oct. 2. Now that an extra episode was added, the drama will officially end on Oct. 3.

This should not affect the beginning of the highly anticipated drama "The Heirs," which will start on Oct. 9.
