Actress Park Si Yeon has given birth to a healthy baby girl. The baby was born yesterday morning in a Seongnam hospital and arrived weighing six pounds and six ounces.
According to her management agency, the actress and her husband chose the hospital because it was ranked as the safest maternity hospital in the nation.
“Both mother and baby are healthy,” said a representative from her agency. “Her husband and mother are by her side. And the family is happy and grateful.”
The baby is her first child with her non-celebrity husband Park Sang Hun, who is an office worker at a small company. The couple married in 2011.
Before Park acquired a substantial acting resume she became famous for dating Eric Mun of the band Shinhwa. The couple dated from 2004 to 2007.
Since then she has been in several successful dramas, including appearing as Seo Eun Young in “Coffee House,” playing a cameo in “The Greatest Love” and playing Han Jae Hee in “The Innocent Man.”
Last year, Park made her first Hollywood film. She plays Hannah in “The Last Knights,” a film about medieval warriors starring Clive Own, Morgan Freeman and Benedict Cumberbatch. Japanese director Kazuaki Kirya directed the film and it was shot in the Czech Republic.
The impending birth of her child was not without controversy as it caused Park Si Yeon to skip her latest court date. The trial date was the eighth hearing investigating the actress on charges of abusing the controversial drug propofol, the same drug that was implicated in the death of superstar Michael Jackson. Actresses Jang Mi In Ae and Lee Seung Yeon are also in trial for alleged propofol abuse.
According to Park's agency, the actress was injured while filming the movies "Marine Boy" and "Dachimawa Lee." The injuries led to a painful bone condition called avascular necrosis and the disabling pain resulted in her having to leave the SBS show "Family Outing."
At an earlier hearing the doctor who gave her propofol testified that the actress was addicted to the drug, which can cause a euphoric state and hallucinations. But then he changed his testimony, saying he prescribed it solely to ease the pain resulting from the bone condition caused by her traumatic on-set injury. He apologized to the actress in court and asked her to forgive him.
All three networks are waiting for the outcome of this case before deciding whether to ban her.
The actress plans to spend the next few weeks focusing solely on her daughter.
