Doug Flutie Lost Both His Parents On The Same Day Just An Hour Apart

Former NFL quarterback Doug Flutie's parents died of heart attack on Wednesday.

Flutie's parents Richard and Joan Flutie died of heart attack about an hour apart after spending 56 years of marriage life together. Flutie who paid a heartfelt tribute to his loving parents on Facebook announced that his father who was sick and ailing passed away in the hospital on Wednesday morning. He also noted that his mother suffered a massive heart attack within an hour of his father's demise and passed away peacefully, according to People.

"It is with a heavy heart that I am making this statement," Flutie wrote in his Facebook post. "This morning my family experienced the tragic loss of my father, Dick and mother, Joan. My Dad had been ill and died of a heart attack in the hospital and my Mom, less than an hour later had a sudden heart attack and passed away," he noted, reported NBC Sports.

The former NFL star noted that it is said widely that one can die of a broken heart but he got to see that happen for the first time in life. He also said that he would like to honor his parents for whatever they did to him and his brother's and sister's lives.

Flutie shared that his parents were always there for their children. His loving parents spent 56 years of their life in providing opportunities for him and his siblings. Flutie noted that they have always been incredible parents to them and amazing grandparents to their children.        

 "They were incredible parents and Grandparents and my family and I will miss them both," noted Flutie. "On behalf of me and the entire Flutie family, I would like to thank you all for your well wishes and prayers during this difficult time," he noted.
