Officials of the controversial “Fifty Shades of Grey” movie have finally found its Christian Grey. At about the same time Charlie Hunnam opened up about his much-talked about exit, FSOG named its male lead character in Jamie Dornan.
Barely a week before the official production begins on Nov. 1, Dornan has been named and is said to be the frontrunner to replace Charlie Hunnam who announced dropping out of FSOG on Oct. 14, noted USA Today.
Multiple entertainment websites have reported that Dornan is set to portray the character of sadistic, intense lover, Christian Grey. The Huffington Post, The Hollywood Reporter, Veriety and People all confirmed that Dakota Johnson already has her love interest in film adaptation of E.L. James’s “Fifty Shades of Grey.”
Some ritics may claim that the name, Jamie Dornan may not ring a bell as louder as top contenders in FSOG’s Christian role, particularly Charlie Hunnam, Matt Bomer, Ian Somerholder and Robert Pattinson. But the new Christian Grey has aces up his sleeve.
Here are the top things you may want to know about Jamie Dornan, who lands the elusive role as Christian Grey in E.L James’s “Fifty Shades of Grey.”
James “Jamie” Dornan is a 31-year-old actor from Northern Ireland and a son of Lorna and James C. Dornan. His father is an obstetrician while his mother died when Jamie was very young. The new Christian Grey is an actor, model and musician.
1. He’s a model
People may remember Dornan more of his physique than his name. Being a face of top retailers Calvin Klein and Armani, it will not come as a surprise if fans will say, “he looks familiar.”
Fashion Telegraph noted that the ladies may recognize his torso more than his face having first stripped for Calvin Klein. Four years ago in 2009, Jamie launched CK’s male underwear competition and has helped look for talents in 9 countries.
Jamie has later become a more familiar face after becoming more regular to Armani and Aquascutum campaigns. He was also tapped later by Zara and Banana Republic.
2. He’s a passionate and intense actor
Jamie however, is not just a pretty face. The 31-year old Irishman has got some talents, too and he’s very good at it.
His first break in the film industry came in 2006 when he appeared in the Sofia Coppola film, “Marie Antoinette.” More projects came in including “Hammer Horror” (2008) and “Shadows in the Sun” (2009)
What could be Dornan’s much bigger break came in in 2011 when he landed a role on ABC television series, “Once Upon a Time,” he plays the role of Sheriff Graham for 8 episodes. A year after saw Dornan in a more intense and what could be as one of his best roles as of yet in the Northern Irish drama series, “The Fall,” which airs on RTE Television in Ireland, BBC Two in the UK and BBC America. He is set to return for the role and will begin production in January 2014.
3. He’s a musician
But acting is not the only talent that Jamie has aces up in his sleeve.
Like Robert Pattinson, Dornan is a musician. He used to perform for a band called “Sons of Jim” which disbanded in 2008.
4. He’s married
His interest in music however, must have led him to his better half, an actress, song writer, Amelia Warner. Warner was briefly married to “The Recruit” actor and fellow Irish, Collin Farrell but Dornan has swept Amelia up her feet. Dornan and Amelia are expecting their first child.
5. He dated Keira Knightly
Before Amelia came to his life, Dornan found love in Keira Knightly. Dornan and Keira met during a photoshoot for Asprey in 2003. They dated from 2003 to 2005.
Now, it seems like you know more than James “Jamie” Dornan. Can’t wait to see “Fifty Shades of Grey?” Production of the film officially begins on Nov. 1 and FSOG is set to be released in theaters in August 2014.
