Plot:

The people are worried because of the King's long absence. The most powerful members of the Haewon Cho clan, the Queen and King's top advisors, announced that he has been ill with smallpox. They prohibit anyone including the crown prince to go near the King because he is highly contagious.

Rumors are also circulating that the King has already died leaving the queen and her advisors to rule the kingdom. However, the queen has been doing her best to cover up everything until she gives birth to a boy who is more legitimate than the current crown prince, Lee Chang, because his mother is only a concubine. But the crown prince will not stay still while the queen is scheming. His goal is to figure out what happened to his father and secure the crown.

As the crown prince ventures on a journey to find answers, he encounters a female physician named Seo-Bi and a skilled fighter with a mysterious backstory named Young-Shin. These two people are the persons who witnessed the first zombie attack. Young-Shin is mainly responsible for the widespread of the disease. They all team up to find the cure and stop further contamination. Lee Chang found out that his father has caught the disease and he is determined to discover what the Haewon Cho clan is planning.

Review #1

"I am a zombie movie fanatic and I can say that this series is very unique. The period for Kingdom is set in the Joseon era, so there are no scientists, no labs, and no experiments. It has similarities with Game of Thrones, where you can see a bastard rightful king protecting his people from the undead.

After watching the first episode, I knew in my heart that this will be my favorite.  It contains all the key elements of a successful drama. I enjoyed the action scenes, the scary zombie attacks, and the clever villains. I am silently wishing the handsome leading man will meet his leading lady in the next season. I really hate the queen who is so arrogant. I hope the next season will release more than 20 episodes."

Review #2

"I am surprised that the Kingdom offered something new to diehard zombie fans like me. This is also a historical drama so expect to see political violence. There are common tropes whereas an advisor is using her daughter to take over the throne from the crown prince who is yet to fight for his role as the rightful heir. He is determined to fight his way to the throne, even if it takes killing zombies. Zombies are evolving which makes them faster and scarier. Whenever the crown prince is being chased by the zombies, it makes me scream "Run!" at the TV screen.

If you think you know the rules of the game, think twice. The zombies in this drama decided to change their rules at the end of the season. I almost got a small heart attack after watching the cliffhanger. After the suspense of zombie scenes, the series switches to historical drama mode. The political conflicts are also very interesting. You will witness the queen's deep secret though the signs are not that subtle.

I sort of miss watching the funny banter between the prince and his guard after it disappears as the story progresses. I understand that it is hard to keep a bright mood when you are being chased by hungry zombies. I hope we can see some funny scenes in the second season. The actors did great in making their characters realistic on screen. You will keep rooting for them to survive.

Young-Shin and Lord Ahn Heyon are the characters that piqued my curiosity. I am still figuring out what their true motives are. I am impressed with the plot and I can't wait to watch season 2."

The Series Is Recommend To:

Zombie movie fans. It's similar to Zombieland with twists and turns. I recommend this to everyone as long as they don't have a faint heart. This zombie drama is amazing and is great entertainment.
