Lee Tae Hwan Hides a Deep Mystery in First Stills Released by ‘Secret Royal Inspector’

KBS' upcoming mystery-romance drama 'Secret Royal Inspector' has released a sneak peek of Lee Tae Hwan's character, Sung Yi Bum, in "Secret Royal Inspector."

Sung Yi Bum is the half brother of Sung Yi Gyeom, played by Kim Myung Soo. Being stuck in a static position due to his social status, Yi Bum aims to move up the social ladder but becomes aware of the cruel reality that does not allow him to do so.

In the released stills, you can see a deep pain behind Tae Hwan's eyes as he portrays Yi Bum. He can be described as a "tsundere" type of character, strong and quiet, and zealously in love with one woman. His exterior is rough and defensive, but his heart is made of gold. He is affectionate towards his brother and fiercely protective over the woman he loves. Fans cannot wait to see how his character evolves and how his relationships change the show's dynamics.

"Secret Royal Inspector" is set towards the end of the Joseon era, where Sung Yi Gyeom (Kim Myung Soo) placed first in the state examination. He now works at the Hongmungwan (administrative and research department without a goal or ambition for his life. One day, Sung Yi Gyeom is caught gambling.

As punishment, he is assigned to work as a secret royal inspector. His job is to eradicate illegal acts and corruption by public officers. He carries out his new job with Hong Da-In (Kwon Nara) and Park Chun Sam (Lee Yi Kyung). Hong Da In is a female inspector and solves cases with Sung Yi Gyeom. Park Chun Sam is Sung Yi Gyeom's servant.

Park Chun Sam is talkative, affectionate, and tearful. Meanwhile, Sung Yi Beom (Lee Tae Hwan) is Sung Yi Gyeom's younger stepbrother. His father is a nobleman, but his mother is a slave. Due to his mother's low social status, his father does not accept him as his real son, and he is barred from having certain opportunities. He opposes his older stepbrother Sung Yi Gyeom.

Lee Tae Hwan is a South Korean actor, model, and singer. Since his acting debut in 2013, he has starred in television dramas and web series, notably "Pride and Prejudice" (2014), "What's Wrong With Secretary Kim?", and "W." He is also a member of 5urprise.

In 2013, at the age of eighteen, Lee Tae Hwan made his official acting debut in the short TV series titled "After School: Lucky or Not" together with the members of 5urprise. He next starred in "High School King of Savvy," portraying an ice hockey player; and also played the younger version of Lee Deok-wa in the 2-episode SBS drama "Wonderful Day in October."

In 2014, Lee Tae Hwan starred in the MBC drama "Pride and Prejudice," where he played an investigator and former taekwondo athlete. He then starred in his first-period drama, "Splendid Politics," in which he played young Prince Gwanghae.

In 2016, Tae Hwan became known for his role in "Please Come Back, Mister," where he played a former gangster and bodyguard. He next starred in the MBC fantasy thriller "W," playing a martial arts instructor. The same year, he was cast in the Korean-Chinese web-drama "Thumping Spike," where he played a volleyball captain. He also made his big-screen debut in "Su Saek," a film depicting the friendship among young men.

From 2016 to 2017, Lee was cast in MBC's weekend drama "Father, I'll Take Care of You," a 50-episode family drama in which he portrayed one of the unmarried sons. He then starred in another weekend drama, "My Golden Life," from 2017 to 2018, playing an industrial design student. The drama was a hit with over 40% ratings and led to a rise in popularity for Lee Tae Hwan.

In 2018, Lee was cast in tvN's romantic comedy-drama "What's Wrong with Secretary Kim?", playing a famous author as well as Park Seo Joon's older brother who vies for Mi So's heart.

In 2019, Lee starred in SBS youth drama "Farmers' Academy," playing a first-year student at the Department of Food crops.

As such, Tae Hwan's career has been an ever-moving graph that has only gone upwards and continues to do so. Fans are super excited for his role in "Secret Royal Inspector" and cannot wait for the air drama.

"Secret Royal Inspector" premieres on Dec. 21 at 9:30 P.M. KST.
