'Mr. Queen’ Surpasess 'Start-Up' + Attains 2nd Highest Ratings for a Weekend Drama in tvN’s History
Shin Hye Sun and Kim Jung Hyun's new drama is finally making history!
tvN's historical and fantasy-comedy drama "Mr. Queen" is about a man from the modern era whose soul was trapped in the body of a queen from the Joseon dynasty. Kim So Yong is played by actress Shin Hye Sun. She is the Joseon queen with the soul of Blue House chef Jang Bong Hwan trapped inside her body. Kim Jung Hyun, on the other hand, is King Cheoljong. He may be weak and ineffective on the outside, but he is a strong and brilliant king on the inside.
After it premiered on Dec. 12, the drama ratings already gained the No. 1 spot on the charts. According to Nielsen Korea, the first episode of "Mr.Queen" garnered an average rating of 8.00 percent nationwide and a peak of 9.9 percent after taking place in its time slot across all the cable channels. The drama also received good ratings in the Seoul metropolitan area, where it attained a peak of 11.0 percent for its first night.
The premiere of "Mr.Queen" did not just gain an extreme rise in viewership compared to its forerunner drama "Start-Up," but it also accomplished the second-highest ratings of viewership in any weekend drama in tvN history. "Mr. Queen" has beaten the record of the 2018 hit drama "Mr.Sunshine," which managed to get an average rating of 8.9 percent nationwide after its pilot episode.
"Mr.Queen" also took first place in its time slot beyond all channels, including the public broadcast networks. Among the demographic viewers of ages 20 to 49, the drama scored an average rating of 4.0 percent and fastly followed by 4.9 percent for the next episode.
The drama is expected to continue in conquering the weekend slots. The viewers are also eager to see the story of a Queen being comically funny at one point and serious in another. Since the queen's soul is from a different era, she acts differently from everyone in the palace.
The first and second episodes of the drama already gave a lot of interesting happenings that quickly draw the viewers to it. The cast had a great start in playing their roles, especially the two leads, Shin Hye Sun and Kim Jung Hyun. Their chemistry is said to be a good match, and they truly give justice to their characters.
Even before the drama has started, the marketing team has already done a good job with its promotions. Because of it, the series had enhanced and captivated the viewer's interest towards the drama before its pilot episode had aired.
Shin Hye Sun and KIm Jung Hyun's natural charm and onscreen teamwork gave a stronger vibe that gives impact to the audience. This is their first-ever team up in a project but though it is their first time, their skills in acting allowed them to radiate the perfect on-screen chemistry!
