Update: Park Si Yeon Charged by the Police for Drunk Driving Incident
On January 17, around 11:30 am, actress Park Si Yeon was involved in a minor vehicular accident in broad daylight. While waiting for the traffic light to change in the three-way intersection, she accidentally hit the back bumper of a car that was waiting to take its turn. Nearby traffic police enforcers witness the incident and went to the scene right away.

Additional reports confirmed that her blood level of alcohol content was 0.097 percent. The level is sufficient enough for canceling her driver's license. Later that day, her agency, Mystic Story, releases a statement that she was not drinking on that day, rather she was drinking the night before with a friend.
On January 26, Songpa Police Department announced that they had sent the actress to the prosecution with the violation of the Special Act on Traffic Accident Handling under the Road Traffic Act.
With the statement released by her agency, the actress decided to drive her own car knowing that she can drive on her own and feels she doesn't have any hangover. Considering that they had drinking sessions the night before the accident she feels relieved that she can drive on her own. Unfortunately, a minor accident happened. Luckily, both Park and other people inside the vehicle did not suffer any injuries at all. When police investigated her, she did not deny claims and was not hesitant to answer the questions asked to her.
Here is the list of blood alcohol content with corresponding punishment in South Korea: 0.03% - 0.08% will cost you suspension of your license for 90 days with a fine of KRW 5,000,000 equivalent to $5,000 USD.While 0.08%-0.02% will cost you revocation of license for a year and a fine up to KRW 10,000,000 or about $10,000 USD. While drunk driving resulting in death is punishable by up to life imprisonment.
It takes about 3 shots of soju to attain 0.05& BAC (blood level alcohol) and is enough to be considered as DUI when you have an accident. Though, the actress agency claimed the level of her alcohol was due to her drinking the night before they felt urged to ask for an apology for the action brought upon by the action of the actress. For whatever reason they may have, they have violated the rules set under DUI.

For that, her agency announced that the actress is in grief and is reflecting on her behavior. In her SNS account, the actress posted that she sincerely apologized for raising water. She added that it was something she should have not done for any reason. She regretted and deeply reflects on herself for having thoughts on being comfortable.

Drunk driving has cost thousands of lives per year and even averaged about ten thousand deaths per year in the USA alone. In Korea, DUI cases have even reached more than a million in the span of four years.
Thankfully, through the efforts of the government in South Korea, drunk driving cases has abruptly decreased.
Drink driving is such a great issue in South Korea that no matter who you are, you will be punished for your violations and so much so bribing the police officers could even make your situation even worse.
