Director Kim Sung Hoon expressed when the two seasons of the hit Netflix original series "Kingdom' were introduced in January 2019 and March 2020, there were a lot of positive and happy reactions from the viewers all over the world. He shared that he felt overwhelmed with the positive results of the drama. The director revealed that at first, he felt worried that "Kingdom" might not be accepted as it is a new genre for others, but he thinks that there was more synergy abroad. And Netflix is really very supportive, and they are fearless, disruptive, and unbiased when it comes to new ideas and attempts.

Kim Eun Hee also shared her side and revealed that she also felt really worried at first, but as the show broadcasted, a lot of viewers showed positive responses, which made her feel motivated to create good content for the series.

Kim Eun Hee answered the question as to why she opted to create a special episode instead of a third season; the screenwriter disclosed that they could not neglect the story of the saengsacho (the resurrection plant). So with a lot of brainstorming, she decided to create a special episode thinking that it would be more interesting for the viewers. Director Kim Sung Hoon further explained that the first season functions as the cornerstone of the world, and 'Kingdom: Ashin of the North' will be a stepping stone to go beyond 'Kingdom 3.'

"Kingdom: Ashin of the North" will focus its story on Jun Ji Hyun's character as Ashin. She is a mysterious woman that Chang's (Joo Ji Hoon's) group encountered while traveling North on their quest of uncovering the secret behind the saengsacho.

Kim Eun Hee also released a sneak peek photos of Jun Ji Hyun as Ashin and revealed that looking at her attire, Ashin is the heir of the Northern Yeojin tribe village who lives near the Yalu River. And the viewers can think of her as the closest person related to the secret of the saengsacho.

The production also shared that they are already done with the filming of "Kingdom: Ashin of the North," and they are already gearing up for the drama's release; and according to the Director, the drama is likely to be released within this year.
