Kim Nam Gil is having a really busy year. After being confirmed for the drama "Island," he is allegedly in talks for another one, a crime thriller this time.

Kim Nam Gil Mulling Over Offer to Join New Drama

On May 4, it was reported by OSEN that the actor Kim Nam Gil was already cast as the main character of the newest crime thriller drama, "Those Who Read Hearts of Evil." But the actor's agency was quick to clarify the assertion.

According to the agency Gilstory ENT, the actor is not yet confirmed for the role. It is only true that he was invited to be part of it, but he is still mulling it over, and no acceptance was made yet.

The agency also said that Kim Nam Gil is not only entertaining this opportunity. After accepting the chance to be part of "Island," the agency revealed that the actor was offered so many other projects. This crime thriller is only one of these.

Supposed, however, that the actor truly says yes to this new drama, his role is no small one.

Instead, he will play the lead - a criminal profiler who is an expert at reading deep into the human mind. In this case, he will be reading the complicated and unimaginable minds of those who commit crimes and violence.

"Those Who Read Hearts of Evil:" Everything We Know So Far

"Those Who Read Hearts of Evil" already has fans way before it has been decided that it should be a television show. This is because it was a book of the same title first. The book was written by Kwon Il Yong and Go Na Moo.

The thriller drama will revolve around the life and the uncanny ability of South Korea's first criminal profiler, Kwon II Yong.

The focus will be on him rather than on the criminals themselves, which is interesting because very few dramas have done that. The drama deals with the beginnings of criminal profilers in Korea and their experiences at a time when profiling is not even that mainstream or understood.

Apart from the concept or term "profiling" not existing, the idea of a "psychopath" was not widely known or given attention. Profiler Kwon Il Yong started his career as a police officer in 1989 and would work to become the first-ever criminal profiler in Korea in the year 2000.

He is so well at his job that he is known for profiling several infamous criminals successfully, including but not limited to Yoo Young Chul and Jung Nam Gyu.

The drama will be written by screenwriter Seol Yi Na. Once shooting wraps up, it will air on SBS.

According to Sports Donga, it is possible that "Those Who Read Hearts of Evil" will air in October, serving as the follow-up to "Red Sky," which is slated to drop in August.

None of these dates are set in stone. Some changes are anticipated, especially when the special broadcasts for the Tokyo Olympics are considered.

According to OSEN, if Kim Nam Gil accepts this film, he is likely to work and shoot it first, as the production of "Island" has been pushed back into the second half of the year.
