After years of hiatus, Han Chae Young is slated to return to the small screen with "Desire."

In a new report, the 40-year-old actress is confirmed to lead the upcoming series alongside Lee Ji Hoon.

To recall, the "River Where the Moon Rises" star previously confirmed his appearance and set to play the male lead.

As for the actress, she will portray Han Chae Rin, a beauty company CEO who has both wealth and beauty.

Upcoming K-Drama "Desire," Starring Han Chae Young, Rumored to be the Next "Penthouse: War in Life"

"Desire" will be IHQ's original drama that is said to be a fledged romantic romance thriller.

Rumor sparked that this might be the next smash hit drama, "Penthouse: War in Life," given that the forthcoming series also centers around revenge and the human desire for wealth, success, children, and love.

"Desire" Release Date

Slated to premiere in the second half of 2021, "Desire" is helmed by "It's My Life" and "Two Mothers," drama Kwak Gi Won and written by Park Gye Hyung.

Aside from the screenwriter and director, the forthcoming drama is set to produce under IHQ and Victory Contents, whose famous works include "War of Money" and "What Happened in Bali."

Dubbed as the "Barbie Doll of Korea," Han Chae Young made her acting debut in 2000 with the horror film "The Record." This was followed by her first lead role in the movie "Bet On My Disco," where she played the dancing queen Bong Ja.

Due to her impressive acting skills, she landed several remarkable dramas, including her claim to fame, which is the "Autumn in My Heart."

She then scored her breakthrough performance in the 2005 drama "Delightful Girl, Choon Hyang," playing the role of the hardworking and sweet-tempered Sung Choon Hyang.

After several notable dramas under her belt, she went on a two-year hiatus after filming the historical drama "Chong Er's Preach" in 2019.

Interestingly, the 40-year-old beauty is keeping herself busy this 2021 with back-to-back projects.

Aside from the upcoming Kdrama "Desire," she is rumored to star in the new movie "Girls' High School Friend" with Yoon So Yi, Oh Seung Eun, and Nam Gyu Ri, who are yet to confirm their appearance.

Han Chae Young Shares Hilarous Experience on Motherhood

Prior to her entertainment comeback, the Hallyu star is happily married to entrepreneur Choi Dong-jun.

The two tied a knot in May 2007, and after six years of marriage, the couple was blessed with their firstborn son.

In her previous interview with SBS' reality show "My Ugly Duckling," Han Chae Young shared a funny story about his son, who was then five years old.

At the time, she recalled how the kid pointed out that the singer-actress Hong Jin Young was prettier than her mom.

"I used to appear on a variety show with Jin Young. I took a lot of pictures with Jin Young at that time, and my son looked at the pictures and said [about Hong Jin Young], 'This older sister is pretty," she explained.

She revealed how surprised she was with her son's observation.

Moreover, she corrected him and told her son that Jin Young was not an older sister but an auntie, adding, "There's not much of an age difference between Jin Young and me. He called the auntie next to his mom and older sister."
