Rising star Kim Min Kyu challenges himself by diversifying his acting roles through JTBC's newest melodrama "IDOL: The Coup".

He will transform into a leader of an idol group in the new JTBC drama, while working with established stars like EXID's Hani and "Lovers of the Red Sky" star Kwak Si Yang.

JTBC's new coming-of-age melodrama "IDOL: The Coup" follows the tragic story of idols who have failed to be in the spotlight and struggle to let go of their unfulfilled dreams.

It stars EXID's Hani, LABOUM Solbin, WJSN Exy, Han Seo Eun and Redsquare Green as the members of the unsuccessful girl group Cotton Candy.

On the other hand, "Lovers of the Red Sky" actor Kwak Si Yang will take on the role of CEO Cha Jae Hyuk who handles girl group Cotton Candy and boy group Mars that includes Kim Min Kyu, Jo Joon Young, Hong Eun Ki, Baek Seo Hoo and Lee Eun Sang.

Seo Ji Han, played by Kim Min Kyu, is the leader of Mars. Undeniably, he stands out the most in his group with his unmatched visuals and talents. He is someone who was born to become an idol.

Rising star Kim Min Kyu, who experienced the hardships of being a trainee, resonated with his character.

He said, "I reached the point where I experienced extreme frustrations as a trainee. I think Seo Ji Han and I felt the same way at some point. I wanted to use this experience to portray my emotions and deliver an impressive performance."

Kim Min Kyu was once a part of the idol survival program Produce X 101 as a Jellyfish Entertainment trainee. After that, he ventured into acting and appeared in several mini series "Pop Out Boy!" and "Lonely Enough to Love".

Kim Min Kyu added, "I hope the viewers will see Seo Ji Han's talents and hard work, and resonate with him as he silently endures the heavy responsibilities of being the leader of a well-known boy group and the immense popularity."

The rising actor also talked about what it's like to work with established stars EXID's Hani and Kwak Si Yang.

In the drama, Seo Ji Han becomes close to Je Na (EXID Hani) and has a tense relationship with CEO Cha Jae Hyuk.

"They're both seniors whom I respect so working together with them is such a great honor for me," the actor confesses.

He added, "Both of them taught and guided me a lot about acting and music. They took care of the smallest details about my character so I really loved filming with them."

Finally, Kim Min Kyu encouraged the viewers to give love and support to the drama, "I think I will be able to show my skills in the drama. I'm doing my best so please look forward to it."

JTBC's No Jong Chan-directed melodrama "IDOL: The Coup" is slated to air for the first time on November 8 at 11:00 p.m. KST. It will also be available for online streaming through iQIYI.
