Park Hyung Sik, Han Hyo Joo and Jo Woo Jin Talk About Their Roles in New Apocalyptic Thriller ‘Happiness’ and More

TVING's new apocalyptic drama "Happiness" held an online press conference with producing director Ahn Gil Ho and actors who will lead the drama, Han Hyo Joo, Park Hyung Sik and Jo Woo Jin.

The cast talked about their respective roles in the drama, and revealed their personal reasons for choosing the drama.

"Strong Woman Do Bong Soon" star Park Hyung Sik will star as Seyang Police Station's violent crimes detective Jung Yi Hyun. He was an ace baseball pitcher but gave up his passion for the sport after a severe injury.

Park Hyung Sik said, "Jung Yi Hyun is simple-minded but he's quite smart. He's a sly fox that looks like a bear."

On the other hand, Han Hyo Joo, who generated a lot of buzz in "W," plays the role of Seoul Police Special Operations Unit's tactical agent Yoon Sae Bom.

The actress described her character as "someone who acts before she thinks". Yoon Sae Bom is justice-oriented and dependable and she believes in living comfortably in this complicated world."

Lastly, Jo Woo Jin will take on the role of Han Tae Suk, the man who is in charge of the Armed Forces Medical Command, the unit who needs to find the source of the disease and stop its spread.

The actor said, "He knows what the cause is [of the virus] and how to stop it but he's contemplating between serving the public and fulfilling his private desires. If Park Hyung Sik and Han Hyo Joo's characters are clear and upright, my character is dark."

Park Hyung Sik, Han Hyo Joo and Jo Woo Jin talked about their chemistry together, raising expectations.

Jo Woo Jin said, "Han Hyo Joo and I are so well-matched and we can openly express our satisfaction to each other's works."

He continued, "I can easily remember complex lines when I work with her. Park Hyung Sik, on the other hand, is a bright person. He would hug me and talk to me while filming. He is a younger brother who has a lot of positive energy."

Han Hyo Joo shared, "I didn't film with Jo Woo Jin often but we had a lot of lines whenever we did. Most of them were difficult scenes but it was really fun."

"Park Hyung Sik is very bright, he really is like a vitamin," she continued, "Everything brightens up as soon as he arrives on set. I felt so comfortable with him that I was almost sorry. It's always fun to be working with him."

'Happiness' Cast Share Reasons For Choosing the Drama

"Happiness" marks Park Hyung Sik's return to the small screen after his discharge from the military. It also celebrates Han Hyo Joo's first drama in five years after "W" with Lee Jong Suk.

Park Hyung Sik shared his reasons for choosing the drama. He said, "This project I couldn't turn down because of the amazing cast and director. I knew I had to do it. From the characters' stories and the storyline, they all felt new to me. It felt so different from all the other dramas."

The actor admitted that he felt awkward during filming as he just got out from the military, "Everyone teases me that I was awkward but being on set was very fun. I was able to overcome the awkwardness."

On the other hand, Han Hyo Joo thought of the drama as a present. She said that Yoon Sae Bom's personality is a lot like her, raising anticipation.

She also shared how she prepared for her role as a tactical agent. "I don't know anything about the police special forces so I studied a lot. I also received stunt and shooting training for my action scenes."

Finally, Jo Woo Jin revealed his reasons for accepting the casting offer. He said, "After receiving the offer, I reviewed it and asked who else was in the drama. When I heard that it was Park Hyung Sik and Han Hyo Joo, I became excited. I was really looking forward to working with them. There is no reason to turn the offer down."

The cast wishes that through their new drama, the viewers who support them would find "Happiness" while watching the drama.

On the other hand, Park Hyung Sik, Han Hyo Joo and Jo Woo Jin's "Happiness" is slated to air for the first time on Friday, November 5 on tvN at 10:40 p.m. KST. It will also be internationally available on iQIYI.
