Gong Yoo reportedly declines the offer to star in the upcoming drama "The Devil," penned by "Kingdom" writer Kim Eun Hee.

In December, his agency, Management Soop, confirmed that the actor is courted to headline the new Kdrama opposite Kim Tae Ri but was reviewing the offer.

After weeks of discussion, Gong Yoo reportedly dropped the offer to appear as the lead star in "The Devil."

It came after TV Daily reported that an industry insider revealed that the drama officials had begun searching for another actor to take on the male lead role.

The upcoming Kdrama, which is set to air via SBS in 2022, will be his follow-up project after starring in Netflix's "The Silent Sea."

From Young Entrepreneur in 'Coffee Prince' to Captain Han in 'The Silent Sea'

Gong Yoo solidified his status in Hallyu after debuting in 2001 with the series "School 4"; however, the rom-com Kdrama "Coffee Prince" with Yoon Eun Hye skyrocketed his career and gained popularity even outside South Korea.

Years later, he then landed another blockbuster Kdrama "Goblin" opposite Kim Go Eun where he took the role of the unbeatable general during the Goryeo era named Kim Shin who lived under the curse.

In the same year, Gong Yoo stunned fans with his stellar performance in the K-zombie movie "Train to Busan'' where he transformed into Seo Suk Woo's doting father.

As mentioned, his latest series was with the star studded cast of "The Silent Sea" with Bae Doona, MBLAQ's Lee Joon, Lee Moo Saeng and more.

Playing the role of Captain Han, the Hallyu star once again proved that dominance as one of Kdrama's sought-after stars.

During his appearance in Marie Claire for its October issue, the 42-year-old actor talked about how things have changed in choosing his next project.

He shared that his drive as an actor changed after turning thirty.

The Hallyu star points out that he focuses on the impact of the character among the viewers.

Fans are stunned to see Gong Yoo appear in "Squid Game."

Despite his cameo role, the character played a significant part in the story.

In his interview with Sports Chosun, the "Train to Busan" star says that playing the guest role in Netflix's series is one of the best things that happen in 2021, adding that that second is starring in "The Silent Sea."

"I think that those two things repaid me the most this year. I can't go abroad due to COVID-19 and can't meet with fans directly in person, but I can feel the responses from fans in countries all over the world on Instagram."

Speaking of which, the actor launched his Instagram just before the year ended and reached 1.9 million followers in three days.

As of this writing, Gong Yoo's Instagram rakes 2.7 million followers.
