'Thirty-Nine' Episode 5 Recap: Think of Happy Thoughts

In "Thirty Nine" Episode 5, Cha Mi Jo (Son Ye Jin) has her regular visit to her therapist regarding her anxiety. She opens up about her friend, who is terminally ill.

The doctor knew that Mi Jo feels at peace whenever she's with her friends, so he advised her not to worry about the future but instead think of the good memories.

Hearing that has brought her to the train station where she first met Jang Chan Young (Jeon Mi Do).

Surprisingly, while sitting in the waiting area, she saw Chan Young on the other side, looking heartbroken.

The duo decides to eat to talk. During their conversation, she asked Mi Jo that she shouldn't pause things because of her. She is referring to her friend going to the U.S. However, Cha Mi Jo insists it is her choice.

Here, she gets honest and tells Mi Jo how scared she is. Being sick and having only six months to live make her think about the person close to her.

Chan Young shares that thinking about her parents makes her sad. The same goes for Kim Jin Seok (Lee Moo Saeng), Jo Hee, and her.

Living with Jang Chan Young

"Thirty-Nine" episode 5 shows how everyone loves Jang Chan Young.

Kim Jin Seok tells her he is divorcing his wife, Kang Seon Joo (Song Min Ji), and already told his son, which surprised her.

Moreover, he also mentions his plan on living away from the city with her, saying that fresh air and the scenic beauty of nature will be suitable for Chan Young, but she declines and advises him to go back to his family.

In a separate scene, Joo Hee and Mi Jo gather at Chan Young place. Talking about Mi Jo's plan on her sabbatical and spending it together with her friend, she asks Chan Young to live with her.

Meanwhile, Joo Hee recommends that both of them should live around her neighborhood.

"Why does everybody want to live with me now?" Jang Chan Young asked.

Jang Chan Young's Bucket List

One of the highlights of "Thirty-Nine" episode 5 is Jang Chan Young's bucket list.

Revealing her plans to her friends makes Mi Jo and Joo Hee disappointed because all of it is not for her but for them. It includes finding Joo Hee a boyfriend, in her case the Chinatown chef, while the second is finding Mi Jo's biological parents.

She insists it is her lifelong dream and it is what makes her happy.

Jang Chan Young's Trip to her Parents

Another main event in Chan Young's life is revealing the truth to her parents.

With Cha Mi Jo, they travel to her hometown to pay her parents a visit.

At the table, she can't find the right timing to tell her mother and father and thinking about making them sad with the heart-wrenching news is just too much for her.

Instead, she chooses to keep things to herself and hugs the two. She and Mi Jo leave her hometown with a broken heart.
