"Under the Queen's Umbrella," starring Kim Hye Soo, premieres with a solid viewership rating as the historical K-drama depicts the challenges inside the palace.

The weekend K-drama illustrates how the queen protects her five sons, especially the crown prince as he ascends to the throne. However, the King's wife faces hindrance from her mother-in-law.

Kim Hye Soo plays Queen Im Hwa Ryeong while Choi Won Young portrays the great King Lee Ho.

"Under the Queen's Umbrella" also includes veteran actress Kim Hae Sook as one of the lead stars who plays Queen Dowager Cho.

The historical K-drama also includes Moon Sang Min, Yoo Seon Ho, Bae In Hyuk, Yoon Sang Hyun, Kim Min Ki, who plays Queen Im Hwa Ryeong's five troublemaker sons.

From crown prince to grand princes, the new historical K-drama also focuses on concubines starting with the prim Tae So Yong, played by Kim Ga Eun and the eager Hwang Gwi In portrayed by Ok Ja Yeon.

'Under the Queen's Umbrella' Episode 1 Viewership

According to Nielsen Korea, "Under the Queen's Umbrella" made its debut with a decent start as episode 1 scored an average nationwide rating of 7.6 percent.

In addition, the new historical K-drama is the most-watched series in its time slot across all channels.

'Under the Queen's Umbrella' Episode 1 Recap

The story began showing how Queen Im Hwa Ryeong will do whatever it takes to protect her sons and properly educate them to become worthy of their place.

One of the highlights in "Under the Queen's Umbrella" episode 1 is Queen Im Hwa Ryeong making sure that all her five children follow the palace's orders including taking special lessons along with their half brothers.

Apart from the five sons of Queen Im Hwa Ryeong, King Lee Ho has other children from other concubines, including Royal Consort Hwang (Ok Ja Yeon), whose son is Prince Ui Seong (SF9 Chani).

In one scene, Queen Im Hwa Ryeong managed to bring one of his sons, Grand Prince Seongnam to Jonghak, also known as the educational institution for princes and royal descent.

In front of the King and his mother, the Queen Dowager the princes are on their quest to win over the Majesties by showing what they've got starting off with their knowledge in the history and duties of the king and its descents.

Queen Im Hwa Ryeong's Sons Get Punished by Queen Dowager Cho

However, as the royals are done with their lessons Queen Dowager Cho saw Prince Seongnam beating Prince Ui Seong and punished him and his brothers for being "troublemakers."

With this, they punished them to kneel the entire day, despite the heavy rainfall.

Crown Prince's Health Status Worries Queen Im Hwa Ryeong

Another highlight of "Under the Queen's Umbrella" episode 1 is the Crown Prince's deteriorating health.

While his four brothers bring shame to their family, the Crowne Prince is the total opposite and exudes the qualities of becoming the future king.

However, as the young royal and his mother Queen Im Hwa Ryeong were walking towards their quarters, the Crown Prince fell unconscious.

After seeking help from the royal physician, Queen Im Hwa Ryeong learned that the Crown Prince possessed the same symptoms as the late Crown Prince Taein, who was Queen Yoon's son.

On the other hand, the Queen tells her court ladies including the physician to keep things a secret, especially with the majesties.

To help his son to recover, the Queen requested for the royal physician Cho Huk Yeong, who at the time looked after the late Crowne Prince Taein.

However, she was stunned to see Queen Dowager visiting his son's quarters and warned her to take care of the crown prince.

The King's mother also pointed out that if the crown prince dies, none of her sons will be able to take his place.

In the last scene, Queen Im Hwa Ryeong visited Queen Yoon's shabby home, who was thrown out of the palace after her son died.

She pleaded with the queen to help her and tell her what really happened between her and Queen Dowager and how her son ended up in a devastating situation.
