Last summer, Netflix made the most daring and ambitious move as it released the South Korean reimagined series of the Spanish box office series "Money Heist."

Since then, it has been the talk of the town. This December, "Money Heist Korea: Joint Economic Area" finally added six additional episodes to complete the season. Is it worth the wait? Keep on reading to find out!

'Money Heist Korea Part 2': Hit or Miss?

The first part of the series made its debut last summer, marking the new wave of resistance in the South Korean scene.

"Money Heist Korea: Joint Economic Area" was a success. However, the six-month hiatus before its second part became a crucial part in the series.

It follows the structure of the original Spanish series with a bit of twists and changes in details. Holistically, the series is an exact copy of the iconic work.

Part 2 focuses on what went down in Seasons 1 and 2 of the Spanish series, which became very predictable despite the interjection of the Unified Korea Mint of North and South Korea.

The story ends on a good note, which mirrors the conclusion where the gang escapes the Mint with billions of cash. Critics think that the series is a shame since there's nothing original with the remake.

In fact, the reunification concept of the drama was a good one, but it's believed to be executed poorly, and was never explored as thoroughly as it should have been.

As for the actors, Jeon Jong Seo's acting was called out after it "softened" the character of the original Tokyo. The plot of Denver and Stockholm's story was also portrayed with dullness.

Though the viewers still streamed the work, fans of the Spanish heist series and K-dramas claim that there's nothing special in "Money Heist Korea: Joint Economic Area" other than its added South Korean flavor.

On the other hand, the CGI, cinematography and gravity-defying stunts in the South Korean remake are still worth watching!

'Money Heist Korea' Writer On Criticisms

Most South Korean dramas are never green-lit for a new season and "Money Heist Korea" is lucky to be one of those works that continues to release additional works.

The original series ran for five seasons and became one of the best works in non-English language. The South Korean remake also aims to receive the same recognition.

Ryu Yong Jae, the screenwriter of the series, revealed that he created the masterpiece to bring Asian viewers to the platform as the original Spanish series wasn't widely known in South Korea compared to other countries.

He made a daring gamble by recreating the series with a touch of Asia. Though there are numerous criticisms, Ryu Yong Jae is more thankful for the fans who have diligently watched every episode.

"I am satisfied with the achievements of the work," he stated. "I really want the Asian projects to be more recognized on the international screen through the "Money Heist" franchise."
