Fans from all over the world fell in love with the Hallyu world through the beauty of K-drama. Works like "Full House," "Stairway to Heaven," "Crash Landing on You" and "Goblin" transcend generation.

Although romance is the strong pursuit of K-dramas, not all works need romantic elements. In 2022, several releases were criticized for the unnecessary love lines that irked the viewers.

'Reborn Rich'

Song Joong Ki's comeback drama "Reborn Rich" enjoys high praises and all-time high ratings, which recently surpassed 20%.

The series follows the story of a secretary who was murdered and reincarnated as the youngest son of a conglomerate family to avenge his death.

Without a doubt, the whimsical plot itself hooked the fans. However, the production unit decided to add romance elements in the series, much to viewers' distaste.

Song Joong Ki and Shin Hyun Bin's romantic line in the drama lacks flavor and is deemed to be poorly written. Their chemistry also feels mediocre which cheapens the drama.

Viewers push for the love line to be removed or allow the female lead to develop her character in terms of career instead of being just the male lead's love interest.

'Again My Life'

Lee Joon Gi and Kim Ji Eun's partnership in "Again My Life" also didn't escape criticism. During the broadcast of the series, fans believed that the romance subplot was irrelevant to the story.

Not only did it lack coherence, the romance between the two characters only served as a filler in the series. Because the exhilarating and complex work was weakened by the romantic plot, many viewers dropped the drama during the second half.

'All of Us Are Dead'

The apocalyptic series "All of Us Are Dead" is also on the list! If there are zombies and survival, there will surely be romance.

While Lomon and Cho Yi Hyun's love line received a lot of positive response from the viewers, it's a different story for the main couple Park Ji Hoo and Yoon Chan Young.

Unlike the delicately curated plot for the second couple's story, Park Ji Hoo and Yoon Chang Young's story seemed rushed.

The two characters would have been better if they stayed as friends as their romance didn't contribute anything to the story.

'Why Her?'

Hwang In Yeop and Seo Hyun Jin's love line in the thriller drama "Why Her?" also frustrated fans in both domestic and overseas channels.

The work was praised for its amazingly written plot but unfortunately, the romantic subplot ruined the drama's overall appeal.
