It was not a smooth sailing journey for Kim Nam Gil before landing a lead role in the drama "Island." In the drama's presscon, the top actor also shared the reason he declined the script for the series twice. 

'Island' Press Conference: Kim Nam Gil Reveals Why He Initially Declined To Star in the Drama

On December 21, the cast members of the upcoming horror-fantasy series "Island" gathered to meet the press ahead of the drama's release. Present at the press conference was Kim Nam Gil, Lee Da Hee, Cha Eun Woo, and Sung Joon. Director Bae Jong was also there.

They shared and discussed their respective roles and how they ended up joining the cast of the series.

In particular, lead actor Kim Nam Gil revealed for the first time a behind-the-scenes story of how he was cast for the drama.

Kim Nam Gil confessed that he had been a big fan of the "Island" webtoon for years already.

"I rejected offers for the drama twice. I felt burdened by acting a live-action. I was wondering why 'Island' had not been made into a live-action despite the development of dramas."

The award-winning actor explained that as a fan of the original drama, which is a famous webtoon, he believed that good acting is required for the series adaptation. He had no confidence before that he would do well and worried that he might disappoint viewers.

But all the troubles and doubts he had at that time vanished, and found himself in Jeju practicing acting with other co-stars.

This confession brought laughter to the people present at the event.

Meanwhile, Lee Da Hee, "Island" is the work that made her feel linger, and desperately wanted to play the role of Mi Ho. For the actress, instead of worrying about ruining the original work, she mainly focused on immersing herself in the character of Mi Ho to portray her well.

Opposite to Kim Nam Gil's experience, Cha Eun Woo knew about the "Island" first when he received the script. Since then, he did his research and learned it originated from a webtoon. After reading the script, he already felt the urge to play Yo Han's character.

According to Eun Woo, Yo Han is an attractive character, and he wanted to challenge himself. With his desire to do well in the drama, he visited the director and meticulously discussed his scenes. He was also thankful to co-star Kim Nam Gil for helping him with his new role.

For Sung Joon, joining the team was a challenge for him. He was worried about the character because it was different from his past roles. But since his co-star Kim Nam Gil strongly recommended him, he ended up becoming part of the cast.
