When it comes to South Korean media, most viewers only watch romance and fantasy works. Thankfully, the industry now caters to action, thriller and suspense, which leaves options for a variety of audiences.

If you love the thrilling suspense of watching the main character get sweet vengeance from the oppressors, then you're on the right track! Here are five K-dramas worth checking out!

'Tempted'

Starring Moon Ga Young, Woo Do Hwan, Kim Min Jae and Red Velvet Joy, the 2018 revenge drama "Tempted" is first on the list.

It tells the story of Choi Su Ji, played by Moon Ga Young, who seeks revenge from the family of her ex-boyfriend with the help of her friends.

However, the drama is such a rollercoaster ride as her loyal friends find themselves in between faithfulness and betrayal.

"Tempted" boasts its star-studded cast and impressively written storyline. 

'The World of the Married'

Because of its intense confrontation scenes and riveting plot, Park Hae Joon, Kim Hee Ae, and Han So Hee's "The World of the Married" received critical acclaim in both domestic and overseas scenes.

It was even remade in many countries including the Philippines. The drama depicts the revenge plan of a doctor whose husband cheats on her with her own patient.

Up until this writing, the drama is still the highest work in the history of K-drama with a score of 29% viewership rating. 

'Eve'

Seo Ye Ji returned to the small screen in 2022 with her revenge thriller series "Eve," which centers on politics, romance and vengeance.

In the series, Seo Ye Ji plays the role of a teacher who seduces the prime suspect behind her father's death with the intention to ruin his name, his family and his life.

During the broadcast of the series, "Eve" was one of the most buzzworthy works. Seo Ye Ji's name even became bigger, cementing her career in the history of K-drama.

'My Name'

In "The World of the Married," Han So Hee played the role of a naive yet beautiful mistress. She shocked the public with her transformation in her Netflix series "My Name."

Han So Hee was a member of a drug gang who goes undercover as a detective in hopes to track down the culprit who murdered her own father. 

Because of its success and gripping narrative, fans couldn't help but beg Netflix Korea for a new season.

'The Penthouse'

Last but not the least is "The Penthouse." When it comes to drama and revenge, the list isn't complete with the SBS masterpiece.

Featuring an award-winning ensemble of Lee Ji Ah, Kim So Yeon, and Eugene, "The Penthouse" tells the dark side of South Korea including murder, greed, lust and madness.

It's a complicated family drama that focuses on the 1% that will do anything to be on the top of the food chain.
