'Alchemy of Souls' Villain Jo Jae Yoon Names Jin Mu As His Best Role Yet— Here's Why

Apart from the romance, magic and chemistry of Lee Jae Wook and Go Yoon Jung, it's without a doubt that Jo Jae Yoon made "Alchemy of Souls" even more riveting.

Following the conclusion of the series, Jo Jae Yoon dished out his honest feelings on his villainous role and how it affected his career as an actor.

Jo Jae Yoon on Becoming Jin Mu in 'Alchemy of Souls'

The presence of Jo Jae Yoon as the main villain in the highly acclaimed drama "Alchemy of Souls" goes down in history.

In the tvN fantasy series, Jo Jae Yoon was able to dominate the small screen with his acting prowess, subtle facial expressions and expressive eyes as Jin Mu.

He's one of the perpetrators of the alchemy of souls, the forbidden sorcery that shifts souls from one body to another-which is the main gist of the work.

Though Jo Jae Yoon has done several villain works, his role as Jin Mu is the most memorable one. The actor reasoned, "Jin Mu was a bastard in every sense of the word. He's an evil person who will stop at nothing until he achieves his goals."

During the filming of the drama, Jo Jae Yoon was very hands-on when it comes to his character; from his hairstyles, costumes and makeup, the actor involved himself in the whole process.

"Jin Mu had a lot of clothes and hairstyle changes," Jo Jae Yoon stated. "I wanted to thank the hair and makeup team for allowing me to get involved during decision making and wardrobe changes."

In particular, he also grew his beard for the show, proving the actors' dedication and passion for the work.

Jo Jae Yoon on His Similarities With 'Alchemy of Souls' Role

Jo Jae Yoon shared an anecdote about his filming experiences. According to the actor, he would act on set without a partner as CGI was included in the latter part of the production.

Because of this, he would sometimes get teased a lot by his colleagues, especially Yoo Jun Sang, who played Park Jin in the series.

Jo Jae Yoon then shared that he sees himself in Jin Mu who tries to appear strong despite having great pain buried in his heart.

"I feel sorry for Jin Mu. As someone living as him, it feels so lonely," Jo Jae Yoon said, baring his soul. "However, life wouldn't stop for me. I just use the pain to push myself to do greater things."

The actor also jested that even if he feels negative thoughts sometimes, he would use this to motivate him to move forward and not follow Jin Mu's path.

Jo Jae Yoon's Upcoming Works, Career Plans

When asked what kind of drama he wants to do next, Jo Jae Yoon chose modern dramas as he just finished "Alchemy of Souls," a fusion of historical and modern works.

Apart from dramas, he also dabbles on variety shows, volunteer work and a musical actor. Jo Jae Yoon hopes to have a great year.

"I hope the flowers bloom beautifully," he stated. "While people remember me as a villain, I want to show them my good side too in the future."

Currently, the actor is gearing up for his forthcoming works "7 Escape," "Big Bet 2" and "Hero," which are all scheduled to air this 2023.
