While she is one of the most popular and well-respected actresses in South Korea, Kim Hye Soo opened up about her struggles as a public figure and her plan of retiring.

Here's what the Korean superstar said during her recent TV show guesting.

Kim Hye Soo Gets Honest About Her Career, Discusses Retirement Plans

On March 16, Kim Hye Soo made a special appearance on Song Yoon Ah's show where she conveyed her honest feelings about her career. The celebrities are known for being close friends.

Song Yoon Ah was surprised by Kim Hye Soo's unexpected visit. According to the two, it's been a while since they met. During the episode, the actress shared she went to Jeju to rest after "Under the Queen's Umbrella" wrapped up.

Then, Kim Hye Soo revealed she and Song Yoon Ah first met ten years ago through volunteer work. She added that she has never been close to her colleagues personally, and Song Yoon Ah is one of the few she cherished among her celebrity friends.

The actress also shared why she has no close celebrity friends.

"Even though they are top stars, it's hard to get close to the actors."

As their conversation continued, Kim Hye Soo mentioned her drama "Under the Queen's Umbrella," which took nine months to film.

The veteran actress received the script in May 2021 and had to go to different places to immerse herself in her character. She was happy and satisfied with the result of her work after all.

The "Juvenile Justice" star also shared that she met many good actors on the spot. She then named the stars she worked with in "Under the Queen's Umbrella," namely Moon Sang Min, Yoon Sang Hyun, Yoo Seon Ho, and more.

Kim Hye Soo said that she changed since she starred in the historical series. According to her, there's power in the work and the character she portrayed. Since she's focused on her work, she hasn't seen anything for nine months, and all she saw was the script.

As someone who has been in the industry for more than a decade, the award-winning actress shared her struggles. She is also considering retiring from acting.

"I don't want to stay long (in showbiz), I missed a lot of things that I felt like I exchanged three years of my life with 'Under the Queen's Umbrella,' but I had no regrets. I did everything I could at that moment." 

In fact, it was lonely and difficult. I'm considering retiring from acting soon. Acting is that much, it was harsh, and I think I was lonely for granted."

The actress expressed that she had to sacrifice a lot of things to maintain her position as one of the top actresses in the industry.
